Job Description Summary:
The Indirect Tax Process Improvement Lead is responsible for optimizing and enhancing U.S. indirect tax processes, systems, and controls across SOLV Energyâs utility-scale solar EPC operations and O&M services business. This role partners with tax, finance, IT, procurement, and project teams to drive efficiency, ensure compliance with U.S. tax regulations, and support scalable growth across a multi-state project portfolio.The role plays a critical part in strengthening SOX controls, improving tax treatment across large-scale capital projects, and enabling accurate and efficient tax handling throughout the lifecycle of solar construction projectsâfrom procurement through project closeout.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Lead initiatives to improve end-to-end indirect tax processes across solar EPC operations, including sales & use tax and property taxÂ
Standardize processes across projects, states, and business units to support scalable growthÂ
Identify inefficiencies in procurement-to-pay, job costing, and tax accrual processes and implement streamlined solutionsÂ
Develop and maintain SOPs and process documentation aligned with SOX requirementsÂ
Partner with IT to implement and optimize tax technology solutions (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, etc.) within ERP environmentsÂ
Support ERP implementations and enhancements impacting project accounting, procurement, and taxÂ
Automate tax determinations and reporting processes for high-volume construction transactionsÂ
Develop integration between procurement systems, fixed asset systems, and tax enginesÂ
Design, implement, and maintain SOX controls over indirect tax processes, including documentation, testing support, and remediationÂ
Ensure compliance with multi-state sales & use tax requirements, particularly in construction-heavy jurisdictionsÂ
Reduce risk through improved taxability determination, exemption handling, and contractor/vendor complianceÂ
Partner with procurement and project teams to ensure proper tax treatment of solar equipment (modules, inverters, trackers), materials, and construction servicesÂ
Address complex taxability issues related to construction contracts, including lump-sum vs. time-and-material contracts and contractor versus owner tax responsibilitiesÂ
Improve processes for use tax accruals on untaxed purchases Â
Support tax treatment of inventory, work-in-progress, and capitalized assets throughout the project lifecycleÂ
Ensure consistent tax handling across multiple concurrent projects in different jurisdictionsÂ
Enhance processes for tracking and reporting solar assets for property tax purposes across jurisdictionsÂ
Ensure alignment between fixed asset records and property tax reporting for utility-scale solar projectsÂ
Identify opportunities to reduce property tax exposure through improved asset classification and data accuracyÂ
Improve quality and accessibility of tax data across procurement, project accounting, and fixed asset systemsÂ
Develop reporting and dashboards to support compliance, accruals, and audit readinessÂ
Act as a key liaison between tax, finance, IT, procurement, and project management teamsÂ
Provide training on indirect tax requirements, processes, and systems to project and procurement stakeholdersÂ
Manage relationships with external tax advisors, compliance providers, and technology vendorsÂ
Track and report on key milestones, risks, and performance metrics to leadershipÂ
Support indirect tax process integrations for acquired businessesâ
Develop tax matrices and automation tools for internal use by the team or throughout the businessÂ
Establish standard work documentation to develop repeatable processesÂ
Design training materials to support tax-related changes to business processesÂ
Support data collection and reconciliations for tax audit responsesÂ
Perform taxability research and analysis as requestedÂ
Prepare technical memos and documentation as neededÂ
Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:
Bachelorâs degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or related fieldÂ
7+ years of experience in U.S. indirect tax (sales & use tax and/or property tax), tax technology, or process improvementÂ
Strong understanding of multi-state sales & use tax, particularly in construction or services environmentsÂ
Experience designing and implementing SOX controls and supporting SOX auditsÂ
Experience in EPC, construction, energy, or other project-based industriesÂ
Experience with ERP systems supporting procurement and project accountingÂ
Proven track record of leading process improvement and cross-functional projectsÂ
CPA or other relevant certificationÂ
Experience in renewable energy, solar, or infrastructure projectsÂ
Experience with tax engines (Vertex, Avalara, etc.)Â
Lean Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement certificationÂ
Deep understanding of indirect tax in construction and EPC environmentsÂ
Process optimization and systems thinkingÂ
Strong project management and organizational skillsÂ
Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal controlsÂ
Ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teamsÂ
