Job Title: Solution Architect – Data Engineering

Location: 5 days onsite at Freddie Mac, McLean, VA office

Employment Type: Contract

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experiencedSolution Architect with strongData Engineering expertise.The ideal candidate will have deep technical proficiency acrossJava, Python, AWS, and modern data platforms, coupled with solidclient management and team leadership skills. A strong understanding of themortgage industry,solution design, andsecurity architecture patterns is essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation ofdata-driven solutions aligned with Freddie Mac's business and technology strategy.
  • Defineend-to-end solution architectures integrating application, data, and cloud components.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and technical teams to translate business needs into scalable architectural solutions.
  • Ensure architecture adherence tosecurity, compliance, and governance standards.
  • Architect and optimizedata pipelines and data integration workflows usingPython, PySpark, and related tools.
  • Provide architectural guidance formicroservices-based systems built onJava and Spring Boot.
  • Drive cloud-native solution development leveragingAWS services (e.g., S3, Lambda, Glue, Redshift).
  • Manage and mentor development and data engineering teams; promote architectural best practices.
  • Partner with Freddie Mac leadership to ensure architectural alignment with enterprise direction.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 10+ years of overall IT experience, with5+ years in a Solution Architect role.
  • Strong background in theMortgage or Financial Services industry.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Java, Spring Boot (for microservices and application design)
    • Python, PySpark (for data processing and analytics)
    • PostgreSQL, MongoDB (for relational and NoSQL data management)
    • AWS Cloud Platform (for cloud architecture, data pipelines, and infrastructure services)
  • Strong understanding ofSolution Architecture andSecurity Architecture principles and patterns.
  • Expertise inmicroservice-based architecture anddata architecture patterns (e.g., data lake, data mesh, event-driven design).
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage client relationships effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Exposure to data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for both technical and executive audiences.

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Collaborative and proactive attitude with a client-first mindset.
