Job description
Mid-Level Full Stack Developer - Core Product - Java FocusedAbout the CompanyÂ
Thoriva is an AI product company that delivers intelligent, data-driven solutions to transform government operations. We combine AI solutions, commercial expertise, and complex business logic to address federal, state, and local government agencies’ biggest challenges.Â
Job SummaryÂ
As a Mid-Level Full Stack Developer, you will build and maintain modern, end-to-end web applications for Thoriva’s AI-enabled enterprise solutions. This role spans front-end engineering, backend services, cloud-native development, accessibility, performance, and secure digital delivery in support of AI-enabled application development for citizen developers.Â
You will work closely with senior engineers, product, data, security, and domain teams to turn well-defined requirements into reliable, secure, and maintainable features across the stack. The ideal candidate has solid hands-on experience building user interfaces and APIs, is comfortable working in an Agile team, and is eager to grow into broader technical ownership.Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
Develop, test, and maintain full-stack features spanning responsive web interfaces, backend services, APIs, and integration components.Â
Implement capabilities for Thoriva’s application development platform, which enables business users, mission operators, and citizen developers to quickly deploy solutions into operations.Â
Build reusable React/TypeScript components and screens aligned to the existing design system, along with RESTful API endpoints and Java backend business logic.Â
Work with data, AI/ML, product, and design teams to display model outputs, risk scores, confidence ratings, evidence packages, and reviewer actions in the application.Â
Follow established patterns for secure data access to sensitive data.Â
Implement authentication flows, role-based access, logging, exception handling, and validation under the guidance of senior engineers.Â
Build interfaces that meet accessibility (Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 AA), usability, responsiveness, and performance standards — including verified color contrast, keyboard navigation, and both light and dark themes.Â
Support integration with PostgreSQL, object storage, caches, message queues, external APIs, identity providers, and AWS services.Â
Containerize and ship your work: build and run services with Docker, and deploy to AWS EKS through existing Kubernetes manifests and CI/CD pipelines, with support from senior engineers.Â
Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor) as part of daily development, and critically review their output before committing it.Â
Write and maintain unit and integration tests (Vitest/Jest, JUnit, Playwright), and participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and release activities.Â
Create and update technical documentation, API specifications, and implementation notes.Â
Troubleshoot defects and production issues, and contribute to performance and reliability improvements.Â
Continuously build depth across the stack with mentorship from senior engineers and architects.Â
Required QualificationsÂ
3–5 years of experience in full stack, front-end, or backend software engineering, or a closely related role.Â
Hands-on experience building web user interfaces and backend services or APIs in a production environment.Â
Working proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and a modern front-end framework — React strongly preferred (Angular/Vue considered).Â
Working proficiency in Java (11+) — hands-on experience writing and maintaining Java services is required. Additional backend languages (Node.js, Python, Go, C#) are a plus but do not substitute for Java.Â
Working experience with AWS — required. You should be comfortable operating in an AWS environment: deploying containers, reading logs, and working with S3, IAM roles, and managed services. Designing cloud architecture is not expected at this level.Â
Daily use of AI coding assistants (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent) for implementation, refactoring, tests, and debugging — with the judgment to verify, correct, and reject AI-generated code rather than accept it as-is.Â
Experience with relational databases — PostgreSQL preferred (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle considered) — including writing and tuning queries; NoSQL exposure a plus.Â
Solid understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, authentication and authorization concepts, logging, and error handling.Â
Working knowledge of HTML, CSS (Tailwind or similar utility-first CSS), responsive design, and cross-browser behavior.Â
Familiarity with Agile delivery, CI/CD practices (GitHub Actions), source control (Git), and automated testing.Â
Ability to take well-defined requirements and deliver working, tested features with limited supervision.Â
Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with product owners, designers, senior engineers, and QA.Â
Preferred QualificationsÂ
Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts (pods, deployments, services, ConfigMaps), Helm or kustomize, serverless services, API gateways, or message queues.Â
Exposure to build tooling and monorepos: Vite, Turborepo, pnpm workspaces; and to Java build tooling: Maven or Gradle.Â
Exposure to LLM integration — prompt management, tool/function calling, RAG, model catalogs — plus risk scoring, reviewer queues, audit trails, and human-in-the-loop workflows.Â
Experience with design systems and component libraries (shadcn/ui, Radix, MUI), dashboards, or data visualization (ECharts, D3, Recharts).Awareness of secure data handling, PII/PHI, encryption, and compliance requirements.Â
Experience working with onshore/offshore delivery teams.Â
Familiarity with DevOps and IaC tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Terraform, or similar tools.Â
