Building Automation Specialist

SUMMARY:
The successful candidate will serve as Sharp’s Building Automation System (BAS) Subject Matter Expert (SME), supporting a multi-building pharmaceutical packaging facility / cGMP environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate and monitor the BAS to ensure that Sharp’s production and storage locations remain in a state of environmental control as per procedure. Monitor and adjust setpoints to maintain occupant comfort levels in all other areas.
- Actively manage all BAS alarms by promptly 1) acknowledging them and 2) taking action to address them utilizing the most appropriate resources.
- Review all alarms from the off-shifts, weekends, holidays, etc. at first opportunity. Communicate any issues / concerns immediately to the Facilities Manager.
- Create templates as necessary to permit frequent, regular and on-demand trending of, and reporting on, a wide range of temperature, relative humidity and differential pressure data.
- Regularly test Sharp’s RENO (remote notification) system to ensure proper operation. Identify and promptly address any and all problems discovered.
- Routinely inspect all BAS related equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Support customer, FDA and internal audits involving the BAS.
- Assess the need to repair or replace BAS equipment on an ongoing basis. Support all BAS hardware and software upgrades as well as other related projects.
- Assist in the revision of Sharp SOPs, Forms, etc. relative to the BAS.
- Promptly diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues with the BAS; identify and implement effective solutions which minimize disruption(s). Likewise, support Facilities Mechanics and vendor partner personnel in troubleshooting energy, air quality, safety and scheduling issues related to HVAC systems and the BAS.
- Routinely identify opportunities for optimization, energy savings, operational improvements and enhancements within the BAS.
- Share technical information related to the BAS, and collaborate and coordinate with other Sharp and vendor partner technical resources.
- Train Facilities Mechanics to properly operate and monitor the BAS and actively manage all BAS alarms.
- Review and provide input on the annual Siemens BAS service contract.
- Ensure that the BAS complies with all relevant codes, standards, regulations, etc.
- Identify, collect and maintain accurate and up-to-date BAS documentation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A thorough understanding of BAS equipment and controls, including design, installation, compatibility, connectivity, operation and preventive/corrective maintenance is required.
- Must be well-versed in industrial and commercial HVAC control strategies and tactics, equipment and techniques.
- Biopharma experience in a cGMP or other related regulatory environment is strongly preferred.
- Experience using Siemens Desigo, Insight and InfoCenter is preferred.
- Computer Skills including the full MS Office Suite is required. QMS, CMMS and AutoCAD experience is preferred.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong technical skills and attention to detail.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills to a broad audience.
- Robust time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and specifications.

PREFERRED / REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 5 years of industrial building automation experience, including relevant certification(s) and documented, specialized training is required.
- Associate’s degree in electronics, automation, engineering or other related technical degree is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is often required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and the risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and outside weather conditions. Proper PPE is always available when needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
