Sentara Leigh Hospital is seeking a Full-Time, Day Shift, Senior Environmental Services Tech (Team Lead) to support the Environmental Services Department.
Hours/Shift:
Full-time, Day Shift from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and every other weekend.
The Senior Environmental Services Technician plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This position combines hands-on service with functional supervision of environmental services staff to ensure high-quality standards are consistently met in assigned areas.
In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining assigned areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition, ensuring an appropriate and sanitary environment. As a leader within the Environmental Services team, you will also provide training, guidance, and support to colleagues, contributing to a positive and collaborative work culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain assigned areas and equipment to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
Perform tasks such as cleaning, disinfecting, and organizing patient rooms, hallways, common areas, and workspaces.
Provide functional supervision by assigning daily tasks to Environmental Services staff and ensuring work is completed to quality standards.
Train and orient new team members, serving as a resource for ongoing support and guidance.
Monitor the quality and timeliness of staff work to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement and customer service initiatives.
Respond promptly to spills, urgent cleaning needs, and requests for service from clinical staff.
Ensure proper use and maintenance of cleaning equipment and supplies.
Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to supervise and support a team.
A detail-oriented individual who can maintain high cleanliness standards in a healthcare environment.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and provide clear guidance to staff.
Knowledge of infection prevention practices and proper handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
CHEST Certification required within 2 years of hire date.
1 year of housekeeping/ESD experience in lieu of High School Education
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent (Preferred)
Associate's or Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
Certification
Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) - Certification - Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE) - (Preferred)
Experience
2 years’ Service Associate Experience (Required)
1 year of housekeeping/ESD experience in lieu of High School Education
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Preferred)
Excellent Customer Service Experience (Preferred)
Supervisory Experience (Preferred)
Able to Multitask in a High-Paced Environment (Preferred)
