Overview:

Sentara is hiring an Inventory Planner/Buyer, Pharmacy Technician at Sentara Independence for the Central Repackaging Pharmacy.

Location: Sentara Independence, 800 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA, 23455

Status:Full Time (40 Hours/wk)

Shift:Days

Hours: 8 hour shifts rotating between 8:30am-5pm

Sentara Health is launching an innovative Centralized Pharmacy Service Center (CPSC) designed to transform medication distribution across the system. This cutting-edge initiative leverages automation, robotics, and advanced inventory management systems to support acute care facilities with efficiency, accuracy, and safety.

We are seeking a Central Repackaging Pharmacy Technician / Inventory Planner to join the first phase of this groundbreaking project. This unique role combines hands-on technical work with inventory planning responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and excited to help build new processes from the ground up.

The Pharmacy Tech Inventory Planner performs the inventory management responsibilities for the pharmacy under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner. Demonstrates ownership of all pharmacy buyer functions.

  • Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area

  • Demonstrates the ability to competently work independently

  • Assumes local and/or system responsibility for assigned tasks

  • Participates in the training of new employees

  • Provides peer coaching and constructive feedback to other colleagues in a professional and productive manner

  • Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner

  • Ensures adequate supplies and medications are available for continuous patient care

  • Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed.

  • Uses appropriate systems for processing patient and financial information

  • Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements

  • Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately

  • Training in Pharmacy Inventory job functions

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Certification/Licensure

  • Virginia Pharmacy Tech License (Required)

  • CPhT License (Received through the NHA or PTCB) (Required)

Experience

  • 2 Years of Pharmacy Experience (Required)

  • Pharmacy Inventory and Buyer Experience (Preferred)
