Senior Software Engineer - C++ / Distributed Systems (Multithreading)

Location: Tinton Falls, NJ

Work arrangement: On-site 5 days a week if 2 years of experience / Remote if 5-7 years of experience.

Salary: $120,000 - $135,000 USD, based on experience

About the Role

Our growing client is looking for a strong C++ Software Engineer to help evolve a large-scale technology platform as AI workloads continue to drive significant data growth.

Candidates with less than two years of professional experience must work on-site in Tinton Falls, NJ.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance C++ software supporting core platform infrastructure.

• Build and enhance distributed storage capabilities, including storage pool management, node lifecycle, and cluster operations.

• Improve platform scalability and performance to support growing AI-driven data workloads and data governance requirements.

• Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams on architecture, technical design, and implementation of new capabilities.

• Own the quality of delivered features, including testing, troubleshooting, and production readiness.

• Diagnose complex platform issues and perform debugging, profiling, performance tuning, and optimization.

• Explore technologies and product areas beyond immediate responsibilities to better understand the broader platform.

• Take ownership of operational issues, including timely investigation, classification, and resolution.

• Follow secure coding practices and help protect the platform against vulnerabilities involving unsafe deserialization, path traversal, SSRF, privilege escalation, cryptography, and third-party dependencies.

• Step up during critical situations, proofs of concept, and customer-impacting issues, and follow problems through to resolution.

Requirements

Required

• Strong proficiency with modern C++, including C++11, C++14, C++17, and/or C++20.

• Solid understanding of object-oriented software design, algorithms, and data structures.

• Experience developing multithreaded and concurrent software, including the use of synchronization primitives.

• Experience developing software in Linux/Unix environments.

• Hands-on debugging and profiling experience using tools such as gdb, perf, Valgrind, or comparable tools.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

• Ability to take ownership, question assumptions when appropriate, clarify requirements, and follow issues beyond immediate areas of responsibility.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

Strongly Preferred

• 2-7 years of professional C++ software development experience.

• Experience with distributed storage systems, scale-out architectures, or software-defined storage.

Preferred / Nice to Have

• Experience with distributed systems concepts.

• Knowledge of network and storage protocols, including iSCSI, NFS, SMB, and S3.

• Kernel-level or systems programming experience.

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.

• Understanding of AI/ML workload characteristics and their impact on data storage, protection, scalability, and performance.

• Experience supporting critical technical issues, proofs of concept, or customer-impacting situations.
