We’re looking for an experiencePavement –Senior Site Engineer to join us on the major projectŌtaki to North Levin - Te Pae o Tararua.
You’llbring strong pavement experience and be trusted to oversee quality, planning, set-out and day-to-day delivery of construction works safely on time and to specification. Working shoulder to shoulder with supervisors, project engineers and the wider crew, you’ll help turn design into reality and keep work moving in the right direction.
This is a big one: a Roads of National Significance project!
The Ōtaki to North Levin (Te Pae o Tararua) project focuses on upgrading the transport link along State Highway 1 (SH1) between Ōtaki and North Levin to improve road safety, reduce congestion, enhance travel efficiency, and support regional economic growth. It is one of the Government’s Roads of National Significance and is being undertaken by two Alliances – the north (delivered by partnersFulton Hogan, HEB, WSP and Aurecon) and south (delivered by partners Downer, McConnell Dowell, Beca and Tonkin+Taylor).
This exciting new four-lane 24.8km highway project will dramatically improve safety and resilience, providing better access to walking and cycling facilities for those moving around or through the Horowhenua and Kāpiti districts.
In addition to the above you will:
- Support planning and delivery of daily site works, ensuring tasks are clearly defined and resourced.
- Check construction against drawings and specs, flagging issues early and helping resolve them.
- Carry out set-out and as-built for pavement layers, stabilised areas, ensuring accurate levels and geometry.
- Work closely with JV partners to align programmes, resolve interface issues and maintain standards.
- Prepare and maintain quality documentation, pavement and stabilisation QA, test records and ITPs for assigned work areas.
- Monitor productivity, quantities and progress, providing accurate reporting to the project team.
- Help coordinate subcontractors and suppliers so work fronts run smoothly and safely.
- Contribute to site safety by participating in pre-starts, risk assessments and incident reporting.
- Assist with short-term programming, method statements and work packs as required.

We’re looking for someone with:
- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, minimum NZQA Level 7.
- At least 2 years’ post-graduate experience in heavy civil construction or major infrastructure projects.
- Must haveexperience in pavements, including pavement construction and/or in-situ stabilisation.
- Strong planning skills, with the ability to develop methodologies, short-term programmes and practical delivery plans.
- Proven subcontractor management and resource optimisation (materials, plant, labour).
- A collaborative attitude, solid communication skills, and a genuine interest in building complex civil structures safely and to a high standard.
