SCIENCE LABORATORY INSTRUCTOR
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under thedirect supervision of the Science Laboratory Instructor, the Laboratory Assistantprovidesinstructional support services forfaculty andstudents of Anatomy, Physiology or Microbiology Courses for the RN Program; assistsin preparing and setting uplaboratory exercises, demonstrations,instructionalmaterials, and supplies; assistsstudents andfacultyinthe use and operation ofequipment andmaterials relatedtothe science laboratory courses.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Work isusually supervisedwhile inprogressand fitsan establishedstructureorpattern; exceptionsor changes inprocedures are explained indetail as they arise.As experience isgained, assignmentsbecomemorevaried and areperformedwithgreater independence.
FUNCTIONS:
- Assistsinpreparing and setting uplaboratory exercises, demonstrations, andinstructionalmaterials;monitorslaboratory environment; organizes,arranges, stocks, anddistributesmaterials, equipment, and supplies
- Providesinstructional support servicesforthescience laboratory courses; assistsininstructional demonstrations of procedures and techniques; explains related principles, practices, procedures,methods,materials,terminology,tools,and equipment to students
- Operates, demonstrates use of, andmaintainsvariouslaboratory equipmentandmaterials,includinglabsolutions,live and preserved specimens, anddissecting equipment
- Prepares and sterilizesinstruments and solutions
- Cleans and ensures proper storage oflaboratory equipment; ensureslaboratory andwork areas arein clean and orderly condition
- Maintains accuratelogs, reports, and records ofwork performed andmaterialsand equipment used
- Monitors, orders, receives, stores, andmaintains adequateinventorylevelsof supplies and equipment as directed
- Assistsintraining ofstudentworkers
- Submitswork orders formaintenanceandrepairof equipment and facilities
- Learns and applies emergingtechnologies and, as necessary, to performduties in an efficient, organized, andtimelymanner
- Performs otherrelated duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS AND EDUCATION:
Knowledgeof:
- Terminology,techniques,equipment,materials, principles,theories,practices, and proceduresrelatedtotheRegisteredNursing program.
- Basic methods and procedures for preparing course materials and laboratory exercises and demonstrations usedin biologicalsciences courses.
- Set-up, operation,demonstration,andmaintenanceofvarioustools and equipment usedina biological sciences laboratory.
- Methods,practices, andtechniquesof studentlearning andinstruction.
- Modern officepractices,methods, and computer equipment and applications relatedtothework.
- Recordkeeping principles and procedures.
- English usage, spelling,vocabulary,grammar, and punctuation.
- Techniques for providing a highlevel of customerservice by effectively dealingwiththe public, students, and staff,includingindividuals ofvarious ages,disabilities,various socio-economicandethnicgroups.

- Assist students and facultyin the use and operation of equipment and materials related totheRegisteredNursingprogram

- Organize ownwork, set priorities, andmeet criticaltimedeadlines
- Operatemodernoffice equipment including computer equipmentand software applications programs

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Any combination oftraining and experiencewhichwould providethe required knowledge, skills,andabilitiesis qualifying. Atypicalwayto obtainthe required qualificationswould be:
Equivalent to anAssociate’s degreefrom aregionally accreditedcollegein biology, anatomy and physiology or relatedfield andone(1)year of experienceworkingin aclassroom,laboratory, or similarsetting. Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences preferred.
