Saalex is seeking an Engineering Technicianin Oxnard, CA/Santa Cruz Island, CA.Saalex is an Engineering and Information Technology Services company with a focus on Test Range Operations and Management, Engineering and Logistics Services, Data Analytics and Business Intelligence Services and Information Technology Services.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $32.85/hour

Work Location: Hybrid work schedule. See below working conditions.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor, service, and calibrate diverse electronic, mechanical, and ground equipment systems
  • Develop and maintain technical data and documentation, including maintenance procedures, technical manuals, troubleshooting guides, and drawings
  • Support test and evaluation, system checkout, and certification activities, including verification of off-site systems
  • Provide customer-facing support for system installation, testing, and fabrication activities
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment (e.g., bulldozers, graders, backhoes) for road grading, erosion control, and site maintenance
  • Perform facilities maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical troubleshooting, and structural repairs
  • Maintain logs, records, and databases for generators, fleet vehicles, and inventory tracking
  • Manage hazardous materials (HAZMAT) in accordance with environmental and safety requirements
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, military, and safety regulations, maintaining organized records and documentation
  • Other duties as assigned or required

Required:

  • Demonstrated ability totroubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues independently in a remote environment
  • Proficiency inoperating and maintaining heavy equipment (e.g., bulldozers, graders, backhoes)
  • Strongwritten, verbal, and analytical communication skills for interfacing with military and civilian stakeholders
  • Ability to workindependently with minimal supervision in a remote, multi-disciplinary role

Desired:

  • Experience supportingremote or austere environments
  • Experience withHAZMAT handling and environmental compliance requirements
  • Familiarity withpreventative maintenance systems and lifecycle documentation
  • Experience working withDoD or military customers

Education/Experience:

  • Vocational or technical training beyond high school or equivalent military training required
  • Minimum 7 years of directly related experience

Security Clearance:

Must be eligible to obtain a Secret clearance. Requirements to obtain a clearance include US Citizenship, security investigation, etc.

Working Conditions:

  • Work schedule consists of8 consecutive 10-hour workdays onsite followed by 6 days off
  • 100% ofon-site work is performed at Santa Cruz Island (remote environment)
  • Employees arerequired to remain on the island for the full 8-day work rotation (no off-island travel during shift), but areNot on call 24/7 — responsibilities are limited to scheduled working hours
  • Lodging is provided inon-site barracks accommodations during the work rotation
  • Requires2-hour ferry transit to and from the island at the start and end of each rotation
  • Frequent lifting (up to 50 lbs) and extended periods of standing, walking on uneven terrain, and exposure to outdoor environmental conditions
