Management Accountant

Location: Hybrid, Scotland
Hours: Full time or part time (25+ hours per week)
Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Cover)

At DC Thomson, our Finance team plays a critical role in helping our business make informed decisions, manage performance and plan for the future. We're looking for a commercially mindedManagement Accountant to join us on a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover contract.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys turning numbers into meaningful insight. Working closely with Finance Business Partners and operational leaders, you'll provide accurate financial reporting, support month-end processes and help stakeholders understand performance, risks and opportunities across the business.

You'll be responsible for delivering high-quality management accounting, ensuring financial controls are maintained and supporting planning and forecasting activities. The role also plays a key part in the reporting and reconciliation of advertising revenue data, helping to ensure financial information is accurate, timely and trusted.

You'll join a collaborative finance team that values curiosity, accountability and continuous improvement, with opportunities to influence processes, enhance reporting and contribute to better business decision-making.

What you'll be doing

• Producing accurate and timely month-end journals, accruals, prepayments and revenue recognition entries.
• Completing balance sheet reconciliations and ensuring financial controls are maintained.
• Supporting the preparation of reliable management accounts and financial reporting.
• Providing insightful analysis and commentary on financial performance, trends and variances.
• Supporting budgeting and forecasting activities through accurate data, analysis and assumptions.
• Managing and reconciling advertising revenue reporting from our Gemstone system.
• Identifying financial risks, opportunities and improvement areas, escalating issues where appropriate.
• Collaborating with Finance Business Partners and operational stakeholders to improve understanding of business performance.
• Supporting internal and external audit requirements.
• Driving continuous improvement in reporting, controls and finance processes.

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical accounting skills with a proactive and collaborative approach.

You'll bring:

• Previous experience in a Management Accountant or Assistant Management Accountant role.
• Strong month-end accounting experience, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
• Experience producing management information and financial analysis for stakeholders.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly and confidently.
• Experience supporting budgets, forecasts and financial planning activities.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work accurately to deadlines.
• Strong Excel and financial systems experience.
• A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify more efficient ways of working.
• Confident stakeholder management skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across teams.

It would be great if you also have:

• Part-qualified or qualified accounting status (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Experience working with ERP and reporting systems.
• Experience working with advertising revenue or media-related financial reporting.
