About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is seeking a Research Fellow to join a leading research program based at the Children's Hospital, working under the supervision of Professor Russell Dale. This role will focus on developing metabolomic assays for the discovery and translation of novel metabolites in cerebrospinal fluid and plasma, contributing to impactful research in neurological and biomedical sciences.

Working as part of a collaborative research environment, you will apply and refine your expertise in research methodologies, design and delivery while contributing to the University's reputation for research excellence.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • conduct original research independently and collaboratively, with a focus on high-quality publications and research outcomes

  • develop and optimise metabolomic assays for the analysis of cerebrospinal fluid and plasma samples

  • contribute to competitive research grant applications and funding opportunities

  • establish and maintain productive research collaborations and translational research partnerships

  • disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, conferences, and seminars

  • support research excellence through maintaining quality standards and contributing to a positive research culture

  • provide mentoring and guidance to students and junior researchers where appropriate.

About you

  • PhD or equivalent doctoral qualification in a relevant scientific discipline

  • demonstrated experience conducting original research and scholarly activities

  • experience or strong interest in metabolomics, biomarker discovery, neuroscience, biomedical science or a related field

  • track record of research outputs, including publications and conference presentations

  • ability to build effective collaborations with academic, industry and professional stakeholders

  • strong communication, planning, organisational and presentation skills

  • demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary research team.
