Job Description Risk & Compliance Coordinator Part-Time, Non-Exempt | YMCA of Greater Birmingham |
Position Summary
The Risk & Compliance Coordinator supports the Y's commitment to safe, welcoming environments for members, participants, staff, and volunteers. The role monitors and audits compliance with child protection, safety, and volunteer credentialing requirements across all branches. It turns compliance data into clear reporting and trend analysis, and partners with branch leadership to close gaps and strengthen risk practices. The coordinator is a resource and partner to branches, focused on helping teams meet requirements rather than simply reporting shortfalls.
Essential Functions
In Case of Crisis System
- Maintain Emergency Action Plan (EAP) contacts and user lists in the In Case of Crisis platform, making sure branch information stays accurate and current.
- Coordinate with branch leadership when staffing or facility changes require EAP or incident report updates.
Compliance Auditing
- Audit completion of Child Protection in-service training across branches and follow up on outstanding requirements.
- Audit Quick Checks and document findings.
- Conduct in-person Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) audits at branches, assessing adherence to policies and procedures.
- Branch visits to provide ongoing support, observation, and coaching.
Volunteer Credential Management
- Monitor volunteer certifications and background check status in Volunteer Matters, and alert managers to expired or missing credentials.
- Own and maintain the volunteer credentials dashboard, giving leadership clear visibility into compliance status.
- Lead a cleanup of inactive Volunteer Matters contacts and set ongoing practices to keep the data accurate.
Incident Review & Risk Analysis
- Review incident reports for completeness, accuracy, and timely submission, and escalate concerns according to Y policy.
- Conduct ICOC risk assessments and trend analysis to identify recurring issues and emerging risks.
- Analyze compliance and incident reports for trends, and work with Directors to address gaps and meet requirements.
Reporting & Communication
- Gather and compile data for the monthly Compliance Dashboard Report.
- Send monthly compliance updates to branches, highlighting progress, outstanding items, and upcoming deadlines.
- Prepare summary reports and trend analysis for the Board of Directors or its committees.
Other
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisors and administrators will:
- Follow employee's and volunteers' screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
- Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.
- Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with children and teens.
- Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in compliance, risk management, human services, administration, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in compliance, auditing, quality assurance, or program administration preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines across locations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, especially spreadsheets; ability to learn systems such as Volunteer Matters and In Case of Crisis.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel between branches.
- Successful completion of a background check and required child protection training.
- Experience in youth-serving organizations, nonprofits, or YMCA settings.
- Familiarity with child abuse prevention standards (e.g., Praesidium).
- Experience with data dashboards, reporting, or basic data analysis.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
The job involves office work and regular travel to branch facilities, including walking through program areas during audits. It may require occasional flexible scheduling to observe programs during operating hours.
