FLSA Status: Non-Exempt; Part-time (up to16hours per week)
Starting Salary: $17.52 per hour (initial step). Position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Summary
The Guest Services Assistant-Retail provides outstanding service and plays an integral role in contributing to the mission of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The position is flexible and accommodates ever-changing business needs.Â
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Creates outstanding guest interactions with a guest friendly, professional demeanor.Â
- Processes sales transactions primarily within the retail stores. May assist with admissions transactions as needed.
- Follows Museum and department cash handling and reconciliation procedures.
- Uses upsell techniques to increase sales and donations.
- Ensures stores remain appropriately stocked and visually merchandised as designated by supervisory staff.
- Responsible for the cleanliness of the retail stores and surrounding areas.Â
- Answers a variety of general queries including wayfinding, schedules, facilities, collections, etc.Â
- Some duties, including cashiering for special events and other guest service functions, require working outdoors.Â
- Promotes a safe and sanitary work environment at all times. Practices safe work habits, participates in sanitation procedures, and reports hazards.

Education and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months to one-year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively communicate with the general public using guest friendly language.    Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
