Senior Structural Engineer based inOttawa, Ontario, Canada, responsible for leading structural engineering design, project execution, and technical delivery across medium to complex building and infrastructure projects. The role provides leadership to multidisciplinary project teams while overseeing design quality, project schedules, budgets, regulatory compliance, and client engagement throughout all project phases.
This position supports engineering services from proposal development and detailed design through permitting, tendering, construction review, and project closeout. Responsibilities include coordination with clients, contractors, authorities having jurisdiction, and internal design disciplines to ensure successful project delivery in accordance with applicable Canadian codes and standards.
The ideal candidate brings more than 10 years of structural engineering experience, strong exposure to large-scale complex projects, professional engineering registration in Ontario, and demonstrated capability in technical leadership, stakeholder management, mentoring, and business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadstructural engineering design activities and oversee project delivery, including schedule management, budget control, and resource coordination.
- Prepare, review, and sealstructural design packages for medium to complex projects in accordance with applicable design standards.
- Provide ongoingtechnical advisory services and engineering consultation throughout project execution.
- Identify and pursuebusiness development opportunities, including new clients, projects, and market relationships.
- Prepareengineering proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and technical submissions.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, government agencies, and regulatory authorities to supportstakeholder engagement and project approvals.
- Developpermit and tender documentation, including engineering specifications and construction drawings.
- Overseeconstruction review services and monitor conformance with design intent during project execution.
- Preparetechnical reports, engineering assessments, and project documentation.
- Conductdesign reviews and provide technical direction on engineering deliverables.
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior and intermediate engineers throughtechnical leadership and quality oversight.
- Supportquality management initiatives and perform peer reviews of engineering work products.
Required
- University degree in Structural Engineering.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario and in good standing.
- Minimum10 years of structural engineering design experience.
- Demonstrated experience delivering structural engineering solutions for medium to complex projects.
- Strong coordination experience with multidisciplinary design teams and construction stakeholders on large-scale projects.
- Working knowledge of:
- Ontario Building Code (OBC)
- National Building Code of Canada (NBCC)
- Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards
- Other applicable structural design regulations and standards
- Proficiency with:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- AutoCAD
- Revit
- Working knowledge of structural analysis and design software, including:
- ETABS
- SAFE
- S-FRAME
- SAP
- WoodWorks
- Strong technical writing, verbal communication, problem-solving, time management, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong client relationships while ensuring client satisfaction.
- Valid driver's license and access to a registered and insured vehicle.
- Ability to work independently and within collaborative project teams.
Assets
- Experience supporting projects through the full project lifecycle, including planning, design, permitting, tendering, and construction.
- Demonstrated experience providing mentorship and technical development to engineering staff.
- Business development and proposal preparation experience.
- Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Exposure to multidisciplinary building or infrastructure project environments.
- Experience conducting peer reviews and engineering quality assurance activities.
