Senior Java Backend Engineer - WCS Migration

We are looking for aSenior Java Backend Engineer with strong experience inJava, Spring, MongoDB and IBM WebSphere Commerce (WCS) to support a major platform modernisation initiative.

The team is migrating away fromWCS as the source of truth towards a modern backend stack based onJava/Spring and MongoDB. The key requirement is strong hands-onWCS knowledge, particularly around the underlying infrastructure, codebase, build and deployment processes, and access management.

Key Responsibilities

• Work as part of a team migrating functionality and data away fromWCS as the source of truth.
• Develop and maintain backend services usingJava and Spring/Spring Boot.
• Work withMongoDB as part of the target backend architecture.
• Analyse and navigate the existingWCS codebase to understand business logic, integrations and dependencies.
• Provide technical guidance onWCS infrastructure and architecture.
• Understand and support existing WCSbuild, deployment and release processes.
• Troubleshoot WCS environments and resolve infrastructure/application issues.
• Support access, configuration and environment management across WCS.
• Help identify and migrate relevant functionality from WCS into the new Java/Spring/MongoDB stack.
• Collaborate with engineering, architecture and DevOps teams throughout the migration.
• Contribute to improving build, deployment and operational processes.
• Support the team in reducing dependency on WCS and transitioning towards the new platform.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience as aSenior Java Backend Engineer.
• Hands-on experience withJava and Spring/Spring Boot.
• Strong experience withMongoDB or similar NoSQL databases.
• Strong hands-on experience with IBM WebSphere Commerce (WCS) is essential.
• Good understanding ofWCS infrastructure and environments.
• Experience navigating and troubleshooting largeWCS codebases.
• Strong understanding ofWCS build and deployment processes.
• Experience managing or troubleshootingWCS access and environment configuration.
• Experience working on complex enterprise e-commerce platforms.
• Ability to understand existing legacy systems and support migration to modern architectures.

Nice to Have

• Experience withMicrosoft Azure.
• Experience withDevOps / CI/CD.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, pipelines and deployment automation.
• Experience with containerisation and Kubernetes.
• Experience ine-commerce / retail environments.
• Experience migrating from legacy commerce platforms to modern microservices architectures.
