JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

WPI's Research Department is seeking a Senior Animal Care Technician to provide animal care and husbandry to a variety of small laboratory animals across multiple WPI facilities.

This is a temporary 10 hours per week position for 12 months.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:

  • Providetoplevelanimalcareandhusbandrytoensurecompliancewithregulatory60 bodies: WPI, IACUC, OLAW, AAALAC, EHS, and USDA.
  • Follow all animal welfare regulationsandtheethicaluseofanimalsinresearch.
  • Operationofvariousequipmentincludingcagewasher,dumpstation,autoclaves,and anesthesia machinesisrequired. 
  • Mentor/Train/Lead small teams of Animal Care Attendants in all aspects of animal careand vivarium maintenance. 
  • AssistwiththeconductoflargeanimalstudiesunderUSDAregulations.
  • Performandassistwithadministrativetasks,payingcloseattentiontodetailandensuringcompliancewithregulatorydocumentationrequirements.
  • Processanimalcagessafelyandefficiently,inaccordancewithestablishedpolicies,guidelines, procedures, and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree required with 2+ years experience as Animal Care Attendant in a vivarium
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred with 2+ years experience as Animal Care Attendant in a vivarium
  • Must be willing and able to obtain Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification within two years of starting in Senior Animal Care Technician role.
  • Mustbeavailableforearlymorningdeliveryandintakeofanimals(USDAspecies).
  • Mustworkaflexible schedule including weekends and holiday rotations.

Compensation:

Hourly pay rate: $26 per hour depending on experience.
