Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and commercially drivenCountry Manager to lead and grow ourMolecular Diagnostics business in Tanzania. This is a senior leadership role withfull commercial, operational, and people management responsibility, requiring deep knowledge of thelocal healthcare ecosystem, strong engagement withgovernment and laboratory funders, and the ability to design and executecountry‑specific sales and market access strategies.
The ideal candidate will havestrong industry experience, a solid understanding ofpublic and private healthcare funding mechanisms, established relationships within theMinistry of Health and laboratory stakeholders, and proven leadership capability to drive sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Strategic Leadership
- Partner closely with the Managing Director todefine, develop, and execute a Tanzania‑specific strategy to profitably grow the Molecular Diagnostics business acrosspublic and private sectors.
- Define and implementlong‑range strategic plans, ensuring objectives are achieved and aligned with regional and global priorities.
- Establish comprehensivesales strategies and execute all tactics required to achieve revenue, profitability, and market share targets.
- Holdfull P&L responsibility, including forecasting, performance tracking, and achievement of revenue targets.
- Prepare, present, and manageannual business plans, providing periodic updates as required.
- Ensure all operations are conducted in alegal, ethical, and compliant manner, in line with regulatory and compliance requirements.
Sales Excellence & Operational Management
- Lead, coach, and manage a team ofSales Executives and Ambassadors, driving execution excellence and consistent performance.
- Execute sales plans to achieverevenue growth, improved profitability, higher win‑rates, and increased share of wallet with existing customers.
- Propose and managehuman and financial resource allocation to ensure maximum productivity.
- Monitor and controlbudgets and expenditure against approved allocations.
- Support field teams withcontract negotiations, particularly on pricing and profitability.
- Act as atrusted advisor and senior contact for key customers.
- Manage customer escalations end‑to‑end, ensuring timely resolution.
- Ensure effective use ofsalesforce management systems, KPIs, incentive plans, and performance management tools.
Government, Funders & Market Access
- Build and maintain strong relationships with:
- Ministry of Health and government agencies
- Regulatory bodies
- Public and private laboratories
- Local and internationallaboratory funders and donors
- Demonstrate a clear understanding ofTanzania’s healthcare funding mechanisms, procurement processes, and reimbursement environment.
- Navigate public tenders, donor‑funded programs, and national laboratory initiatives.
- Position the organization as astrategic partner within the Tanzanian healthcare system.
Customer & KOL Engagement
- Establish and implement structuredKey Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement plans in collaboration with Marketing.
- Maintain regular engagement withtop KOLs, laboratory leadership, and C‑suite stakeholders.
- Implement monitoring mechanisms to track the effectiveness of KOL engagement.
- Maintain strong insight intomarket dynamics, pricing challenges, reimbursement models, and competitive landscape.
- Translate market data and insights intoactionable growth strategies.
People Leadership & Talent Development
- Develop, motivate, and challenge teams to deliverhigh performance and accountability.
- Identify and develophigh‑potential (HIPO) talent, with clear development and succession plans.
- Build leadership capability throughactive coaching and mentoring.
- Drive rewards, recognition, and engagement initiatives aligned with company culture.
- Foster a collaborative, ethical, and results‑driven working environment.
Required Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum6 years’ experience in a senior commercial or country leadership role.
- At least3–4 years’ proven people management experience.
- Strong commercial and operational background inhealthcare, preferablyIVD, Diagnostics, Molecular, or related markets.
- Demonstrated experience within theTanzanian healthcare market, including public sector engagement.
- Proven understanding oflocal laboratory funding and donor mechanisms.
- Established relationships withKOLs, laboratories, and healthcare stakeholders are a strong advantage.
- Proven ability to develop and executecountry‑specific sales strategies.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, financial analysis, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively within amatrix and multi‑stakeholder environment.
Qualifications
- University degree inMedical Technology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
- Understanding of theMolecular Diagnostics sales process is highly advantageous.
- Strong business planning, project management, and analytical skills.
- High level of accountability, agility, and ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong business acumen with a results‑driven mindset.
- Experience in finance or strong analytical capability will be an advantage.
