PositionSummary

Reportingto the SeniorDirector,Global Media Relations,theAssociateDirector,MediaRelations,isresponsibleforexecutingaglobalmediarelationsstrategydesigned toadvanceBristol Myers Squibb’sreputationamong keyaudiences.

The ideal candidate will bring sharp media judgment and strong storytelling ability, with the proven ability to navigate a fast-paced news environment and deliver impactful media outcomes while effectively managing scope, timelines and resources.

KeyResponsibilities

  • Execute a global, top-tier media strategy aligned with corporate positioning to advance the company narrative and enhance reputation through proactive and opportunistic engagement across print, broadcast, and digital media.

  • Drivecontinualcadenceof newsflow, managing sequenceandstrategyof announcements.

  • Identify,develop andpitch uniquestorylinesand contentopportunitiesthatadvance the company’sstrategicpositioning.

  • Buildandmaintainrelationshipswithtop-tiermedia,manageincomingmediarequests, and executeproactiveandopportunistic media outreach.

  • Developmediamaterialsincluding pitches, talking points forinterviews,etc.

  • Preparebackgroundandbriefingmaterials, plan logistics, andtrainspokespeople forcritical mediaandpublicspeakingopportunities.

  • Demonstratestrongjudgment andsuperiormediaacumen whenengaging with reporters.

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of best-in-class media resources, driving consistency, usability and operational excellence across teams.

  • Champion the thoughtful use of AI and emerging tools to drive smarter insights, elevate content and improve the efficiency and impact of media engagement.

  • Closely monitor external trends and insights to advise on where and how BMS should have a voice and to continually inform media strategy development.

  • Socialize externalannouncements tointernalaudiences toadvanceworkforceknowledgeofBMSpeople,medicines,positionsandperformance.

  • Support response to issues management andrapid response.

  • Manage agency partners, including scope, timelines and utilization to support effective delivery within budget.

Qualifications &Experience

  • 8 yearsofmediarelationsexperience,preferablyin pharmaceuticalorsimilar industry.

  • Existingrelationshipswith topbusiness,consumerandfinancial media.

  • Excellentwriting andresearchskills,with knowledgeof APstyle and akeen attentiontodetail.

  • Issuesmanagementexperience preferred.

  • Strongbusiness acumen, with a demonstrated ability to understand and translate business strategy.

  • Ability to interact effectively with many levels of colleagues across a complex, highly collaborative organization.

  • Strong writing and storytelling capabilities, with the ability to translate complex scientific, business, policy, or societal issues into clear, compelling messaging.

  • Ability to effectively counselsenior leaders.

  • Superior written,verbal,facilitationandinterpersonalcommunicationsskills.

  • Excelsinfast-paced, challengingenvironment.

  • Highproficiency withdigitalcommunicationsandeffectiveuseofonline platforms.

  • Bachelor’s degreerequired,preferablyincommunications,journalismor relatedfield.

Compensation Overview:

Princeton - NJ - US: $156,660 - $189,829 


The starting pay range(s) listed above is for full-time employees (FTE). You may also be eligible for additional discretionary incentive cash and stock opportunities. We determine starting pay thoughtfully – carefully considering the nature of the role, required skills, work location, schedule and the knowledge and experience you bring. Final compensation is guided by pay equity principles and applicable employment laws. Compensation programs are reviewed on an ongoing basis and may be adjusted over time to reflect evolving market factors, and individual, team or Company performance.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, you may be eligible to participate in our comprehensive benefit plans – including wellbeing support, retirement and financial protection benefits, and insurance offerings (medical, dental, vision, life and disability).


U.S.-based exempt employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off (FTO), which provides paid time off without a set accrual limit, subject to manager approval, along with 11 paid company holidays each year.


Non-exempt employees, RayzeBio employees, and employees located in Puerto Rico receive 160 hours of paid vacation annually for new hires (subject to manager approval), 11 paid company holidays, and 3 optional holidays.


Depending on eligibility, employees may also have access to additional time-off benefits, including paid sick leave, up to two paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, and leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, or military needs. Eligible employees also enjoy an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
