The Opportunity 

We are offeringa permanent position foraProcess Engineer to join our Process Engineering team as part of our Cochlear Brisbane Operations division based in Newstead.

 As part of a larger cohort of Engineering talent, the Process Engineer will work collaborativelywitha diverse group of people to develop stable and reliable manufacturing processes for new and existing products, support quality, yield and efficiency initiatives orexecutemanufacturing network optimisation projects to expandCochlear’s manufacturing capabilities to help our recipients Hear now. Please note: we are particularity looking for professionals who have experience in eitherSemiconductor Cleanroom AND/ORSurface Mount Technology

Semiconductor Cleanroom

Experience introducing Semiconductor Cleanroom processes such as:

• Semiconductor die attachment

• Plasma Cleaning

• Wirebonding

• Semiconductor encapsulation

• Standard test steps for the above processes such as wirebond pull-testing, component shear testing etc.

Surface Mount Technology

Experience introducing Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes (Screen Printing, SPI, Pick & Place, Reflow), experience inoptimisation, work package ownership and new product introduction for SMT assembly processes such as:

• Solder paste screen printing

• Solder Paste Inspection (SPI)

• Component Pick and Place

• Reflow soldering

• Automated Optical Inspection (AOI)

Responsibilities include:  

• Support Global Supply Chain and R&D project execution by developing and implementing safe, scalable, stable, and robust manufacturing processes across the manufacturing network for new and commercially already available product. 

• Support the introduction of new processes,equipment and materials,includingequipmentinstallation, calibration,WH&S assessments and associatedtechnical and processdocumentation(e.g. WorkInstructions,ProcessFailureModeEffectsAnalysis) in accordancetoCochlear’s QMS requirements. 

• Support the execution and documentation of process validation builds, co-ordinate testing of characterisation, verification and validation units and compile, analyse, and report on results. 

• Responsible for meeting the manufacturing network optimisation strategy byrelocating/duplicating processes across the manufacturing network, in line with projectobjectives, target and timeline within the area of expertise. 

• Support the development and execution of experimentation and testing to enable characterisation, optimization and troubleshooting of processes and equipment. You willbe required to document results and analysis of such testing,drawing conclusions leading to effective technical resolution. 

• You will plan and develop engineering work packages concerned with unique problems or team challenges, which have an important impact on moderate to large programs.

Must Haves: 

• Tertiary qualifications inMechanical / Electrical / Biomedical /Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent. 

• Shall have provenexperience developing and introducing manufacturing processes. 

• Demonstrated ability to workcollaboratively withcrossfunctional teams to ensure projectdeliverables are achieved. 

• Demonstrated experience inequipment and processvalidation. 

• Shall have the ability toanalysetestdata and perform complex statistical analysisto make sound data driven decisions. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, includingproficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint 

Ideal: 

• Experience in a process development role within a highly regulated industry (Medical Device and/or Electronics Manufacturing industry experience preferred). 

• Familiar with Six SigmaLean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies. 

• Working knowledge of DFSS/DMAIC tools, KT Problem Solving & Decision Making, PDCA and DOE’s and applyingthese tools in the characterization, optimization and troubleshooting of process equipment and technology performance. 

• Experienceworkingwithstatisticalsoftware(e.g.MINITAB) is desirable for this role.
