We have two exciting opportunities for a Senior Advisor Planning and Performance to join our Planning, Performance & Improvement functions for either our Driving or Commercial Transport regulatory sub-system. This role is all about helping the regulatory system work well by connecting planning, workflow coordination and performance insight to the priorities that matter most. 

If you enjoy making sense of complexity, turning information into useful insight and working with others to improve how things get done, this role offers the chance to do work with real purpose. You will work closely with operational teams, leaders and stakeholders to support practical decision-making, strengthen consistency and help shape better regulatory outcomes for New Zealanders. 

Key responsibilities include: 

• Support the planning and delivery of work that helps the regulatory system operate effectively. 

• Connect priorities, risks, trade-offs and performance information to support better decisions. 

• Use performance insights to identify trends, risks, issues and opportunities. 

• Provide clear, practical and evidence-based advice to leaders and operational teams. 

• Bring people and information together across teams to support joined-up delivery. 

• Monitor performance against plans and help identify where early action may be needed. 

• Improve planning tools, frameworks and processes so they are useful, consistent and easy to apply. 

• Support governance, committee, forum, Ministerial, OIA and reporting requirements.

We are looking for someone who brings curiosity, sound judgement and strong advisory skills. You will be confident working with data, people and ambiguity, and able to turn information into clear advice that supports good decisions and practical action.

You will bring:

• A good understanding of regulatory systems, government processes or complex operational environments.
• Experience supporting planning, prioritisation or coordination across multiple teams or work programmes.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and identify trends, risks and opportunities.
• Experience contributing to performance monitoring, reporting, assurance or governance processes.
• The ability to provide clear, structured and evidence-based advice that helps people make decisions.
• Strong relationship and engagement skills, with the ability to work well across teams and functions.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, dashboards and briefings.
• Good judgement, attention to detail and a proactive approach to solving problems in ambiguous settings.
• Working knowledge of project or programme delivery approaches would be useful.

This role would suit someone with experience in a regulatory, government or complex operational environment who enjoys using planning, reporting and analysis to support better outcomes.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in the public sector

We provide sub-system oversight, planning, performance monitoring and improvement support so regulatory teams can focus on core delivery while having the insight, tools and support they need to make good decisions and improve outcomes.
