About the RoleÂ
This is an operator and leader role. Youâll set strategy, run day-to-day risk and fraud operations, and build the systems and processes that scale with our portfolio. Youâll work cross-functionally with Sales, Finance, Engineering, and Customer Experience to protect Quilt and our merchants â without becoming a speed bump in the sales motion.Â
What You'll OwnÂ
- Lead merchant underwriting operations end-to-end â credit review, risk decisioning, exposure monitoring, and policy managementÂ
- Manage fraud detection and prevention across the merchant portfolio, including chargeback management, dispute resolution, and loss mitigationÂ
- Maintain credit exposure within defined thresholds while optimizing merchant approval rates and minimizing unnecessary frictionÂ
- Build and refine risk scoring models, underwriting frameworks, and fraud rule logic; champion automation wherever it reduces manual review without compromising controlsÂ
- Develop and track KPIs across underwriting decisioning quality, fraud losses, chargeback rates, and portfolio healthÂ
- Partner with Sales and Account Management to support merchant onboarding, escalations, and exception handling â acting as a collaborative resource, not a gatekeeperÂ
- Lead, develop, and grow a team of risk analysts and fraud operations specialistsÂ
- Manage relationships with processors, card networks, and third-party risk vendorsÂ
- Stay ahead of evolving fraud vectors, card network rules, and regulatory requirements relevant to PayFac operationsÂ
What you bring
- 8â10+ years in payments risk, fraud, or underwriting â ideally in a PayFac, ISO, or acquiring environmentÂ
- Strong analytical and data skills; comfortable building models, querying data, and driving decisions from numbersÂ
- Proven track record balancing risk discipline with business velocity in a high-growth settingÂ
- Hands-on operator instincts â you donât just design processes, you run themÂ
- Experience building and deploying risk automation tools and fraud ML modelsÂ
- Track record building and leading high-performing risk operations teamsÂ
- Deep familiarity with chargeback management, dispute workflows, and card network rules (Visa, Mastercard)Â
- Strong written and verbal communication; able to translate risk concepts for non-technical stakeholdersÂ
Nice to Have
- Direct PayFac experience â familiarity with sponsor bank relationships, sub-merchant liability, and PayFac-specific regulatory obligationsÂ
- Experience with Stripe, or Adyen as processing platformsÂ
- Background in specialty retail verticals (dive, pet, outdoor, liquor, etc.)Â
What we Offer
- Opportunity to build software that powers real-world commerce at scale.
- Competitive salary and equity package.
- Comprehensive benefits (health, dental, vision, 401k, etc.).
- Strong emphasis on engineering quality and career growth.
Salary:Â 160-180k Base + Bonus
Location:Â Remote, based in the United States
