Position Summary
The Jr. Systems Administrator supports the daily operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of server, storage, network, and core IT systems. This role assists with monitoring system and network health, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and supporting essential infrastructure services such as DNS and DHCP.
The Jr. Systems Administrator will participate in the administration of virtualized environments, including VMware and/or Hyper-V, assist with backup and recovery processes, apply system patches and updates, and contribute to technical documentation and standard operating procedures that improve infrastructure reliability and security.
Candidates should have foundational networking and systems administration knowledge gained through professional experience, home labs, technical training, or educational programs. Occasional travel may be required to support infrastructure needs across multiple locations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in team projects, meetings, and assignments supporting IT infrastructure initiatives.
- Support the configuration and administration of virtual servers in VMware and/or Hyper-V environments.
- Assist with system patching, updates, and maintenance to reduce vulnerabilities and maintain system health.
- Maintain and verify backup systems and participate in disaster recovery testing and documentation.
- Support user and group management using Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Help configure and maintain core infrastructure services, including DNS, DHCP, DFS, and certificates.
- Perform basic network troubleshooting, including diagnosing connectivity issues, identifying misconfigurations, verifying switch and port status, and assisting with network equipment documentation.
- Assist with monitoring network and system health using appropriate IT monitoring tools.
- Support the setup, configuration, and deployment of infrastructure equipment such as switches, access points, and cabling.
- Document technical procedures, system configurations, troubleshooting steps, and standard operating procedures.
- Follow established IT policies, procedures, security requirements, and operational standards.
- Maintain accurate incident, asset, and service records through ticketing and inventory management systems.
- Provide technical support at remote locations or facilities as needed.
- Participate in after-hours work and on-call rotations as assigned.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Report to work in the office five days per week.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience with Active Directory user and group management.
- Basic understanding of Group Policy.
- Understanding of basic networking concepts and troubleshooting.
- Exposure to IT infrastructure and system monitoring tools.
- Basic knowledge of PowerShell.
- Familiarity with backup and recovery concepts.
- Ability to create, maintain, and follow technical documentation and SOPs.
- Interest in learning and supporting cloud platforms.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and eager to learn.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a technical team.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Institute Degree/Certificate in Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of IT experience in a technical support, help desk, systems support, or junior systems administration role.
- Familiarity with ticketing systems, technical documentation, system troubleshooting, and basic networking is preferred.
