Project Manager

Position Summary:

The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing all phases of large-scale construction projects within Potlotek First Nation, with a strong emphasis on educational infrastructure such as schools.

This role requires a culturally competent leader with significant experience in planning, managing, and executing construction projects from concept to completion.

The Project Manager ensures alignment with Potlotek’s community priorities, safety standards, and sustainable development goals, while fostering collaboration among stakeholders and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Position Duties:

• Develop comprehensive project plans including scope, budget, schedule, and resource allocation.
• Oversee and manage large construction projects, particularly educational facilities.
• Collaborate with Potlotek First Nation leadership, community members, and stakeholders to ensure projects reflect cultural values and community needs.
• Ensure project adherence to building codes, safety regulations, and applicable standards.
• Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and resolve financial variances.
• Lead project teams including contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and local workforce.
• Identify and mitigate risks to minimize disruptions and maintain project momentum.
• Provide regular progress reports to leadership and stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate records including contracts, permits, schedules, and closeout documentation.
• Incorporate Mi’kmaq cultural elements into project designs and construction processes.
• Promote sustainable construction practices aligned with environmental stewardship.
• Act as the main point of contact for internal and external communication related to the project.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols on all job sites.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Capital Projects.

Working Conditions:

• Combination of office and construction site environments.
• May require travel for site inspections and meetings.
• Must adhere to a drug and alcohol-free workplace policy.

Academic/Educational Requirements: •

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.

• PMP or CCM certification is considered an asset.

Qualifications and Skills/Experience:

• 7–10 years of experience managing large-scale construction projects.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with educational facility construction preferred.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Primavera). • Knowledge of construction methods, codes, and standards, including those specific to First Nations communities.
• Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and manage conflict.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to engage effectively with contractors, engineers, consultants, and community stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an asset. • Experience working with Indigenous communities is highly preferred.
