JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Tax Accountant supports the company’s indirect tax functions. This includes sales and use tax, property tax, excise tax, gross receipts tax, and other state and local taxes. The tax accountant is a member of the corporate tax department and is involved in indirect tax compliance, tax planning and decision-making throughout the year, working as part of a team to accomplish goals. This is an on-site role located inSioux Falls, SD. Responsibilities include:

• Prepare and file monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns for a diverse portfolio of entities across multiple states and jurisdictions.

• Prepare and file state and local property tax returns, including gathering supporting documentation, maintaining filing calendars, and ensuring timely compliance with jurisdictional requirements.

• Assist with property tax compliance activities.

• Prepare and file federal and state excise tax returns, ensuring accurate reporting and timely remittance of tax liabilities.

• Assist with sales and use tax audits, including gathering documentation and responding to information requests.

• Monitor, respond to, and assist in resolving notices and correspondence from tax jurisdictions, including sales, property, and excise tax matters.

• Utilize industry-leading tax research software to research indirect tax issues and identify applicable tax authorities, regulations, and guidance.

• Maintain and optimize POET’s sales tax engine to support accurate tax determination and ongoing compliance.

• Collaborate with Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Procurement to ensure proper tax classification and treatment of transactions and identify opportunities for process improvements.

• Participate in formal and hands-on training opportunities to develop technical knowledge and enhance job performance.

• Adapt to evolving business needs and take on additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Two years of experience in indirect tax, including multi-state tax compliance, reporting, accruals, and reconciliations, preferred.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and effectively use new software applications and technology.

BONUS POINTS

• Experience in accounting and/or income tax

• Experience with ONESOURCE Sales Tax Engine

• CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license or interest in pursuing a CPA license

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in an office environment, working at a personal computer where you may sit or stand. Most of our Sioux Falls office workspace consists of an open-concept design intended to promote open communication and collaboration.
