The Senior Superintendent is the primary jobsite supervisor responsible for overseeing employees involved in the installation, alteration, addition, and repair of electrical systems, conductors, materials, and related equipment.

This position provides operational leadership for large, typically ground-up construction projects requiring the coordination of multiple subordinate supervisors, crews, subcontractors, and trades. The Senior Superintendent typically manages projects valued at $20 million or more and generally requires at least 10 years of relevant construction experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementation of Walker’s safety program and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and site-specific safety requirements.

  • Ensure employees, subcontractors, vendors, and visitors comply with all applicable safety policies and procedures.

  • Participate in safety and incident investigations, ensure timely responses, and document all corrective actions.

  • Review safety-related reports and documentation and ensure required issues are addressed promptly.

  • Coordinate and participate in OSHA inspections, investigations, claims, government inspections, and licensing matters.

  • Provide leadership and direction to Superintendents, General Foremen, and Foremen and ensure assigned responsibilities are completed safely and efficiently.

  • Communicate regularly with employees, subcontractors, and project personnel to ensure they understand the work, planned approach, schedule, and potential risks.

  • Identify potential problem areas and establish contingency plans when necessary.

  • Address construction issues involving productivity, scheduling conflicts, work coordination, material shortages, equipment, and labor.

  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with clients, inspectors, architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.

  • Accompany inspectors during project inspections and ensure identified deficiencies are corrected and documented.

  • Establish expectations and practices that support high levels of productivity, accountability, and morale among employees, subcontractors, suppliers, and service providers.

  • Assist with evaluating the project’s scope of work, schedule, budget, and resources required for successful completion.

  • Plan and organize project activities under the direction of a Senior Project Manager or Division Manager.

  • Determine production sequences and coordinate assigned work with other crafts, contractors, and subcontractors.

  • Attend and participate in preconstruction meetings, construction meetings, scheduling meetings, and other project-related discussions.

  • Maintain and update project forecasts to ensure materials are ordered and scheduled for delivery when needed.

  • Ensure tools and equipment are requisitioned and available according to the project schedule.

  • Schedule project personnel and confirm subcontractor staffing and work schedules.

  • Establish project objectives, procedures, and performance standards consistent with company policies.

  • Monitor construction activities with the Senior Project Manager, Superintendent, and Foreman to ensure the project remains on schedule and within budget.

  • Oversee the preparation of change quotations for presentation to the client or general contractor.

  • Ensure approved change orders are properly executed, documented, and reflected on as-built drawings.

  • Assist with monthly project costing reports under the direction of a Senior Project Manager or Division Manager.

  • Assist the Senior Project Manager with progress billing, equipment rentals, project income, expenses, cost projections, and other financial aspects of the contract.

  • Identify potentially serious project issues and implement corrective actions within company guidelines.

  • Review RFI logs regularly and identify issues that may affect the project’s cost, schedule, quality, or scope.

  • Coordinate with engineering, estimating, and planning personnel to ensure work complies with project drawings, specifications, and schedules.

  • Coordinate with logistics, purchasing, quality control, safety, engineering, and other departments to ensure project operations are properly supported.

  • Ensure materials, equipment, inspections, and other resources are available to support field activities and project schedules.

  • Ensure all work complies with applicable state codes, regulatory requirements, project specifications, and contractual obligations.

  • Implement processes that improve productivity, efficiency, and installation quality.

  • Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure all contractual obligations are met.

  • Review inspection reports and document the resolution of identified deficiencies.

  • Code invoices, document additional work and back charges, and maintain accurate project records.

  • Maintain current and accurate as-built drawings and complete required startup, equipment, and tool-transfer documentation.

  • Maintain the project progress schedule and assist the Senior Project Manager with calculating percentage of completion for monthly invoicing and labor reporting.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  • This position operates primarily in active client construction-site environments. The employee may be exposed to construction personnel, subcontractors, multiple trades, equipment, noise, dust, weather conditions, and other conditions typically associated with an active construction site.

 

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use their hands to handle or operate objects and equipment, and reach with their hands and arms.

  • Accessing all areas of a construction site in a wide range of climates and environmental conditions

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and visualizing two- and three-dimensional objects and spatial relationships

  • Lifting, carrying, moving, or handling materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Climbing step stools, ladders ranging from 8 to 10 feet, extension ladders, and three or more flights of stairs

  • Bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and moving on hands and knees between 20 and 50 times per day

  • Reaching, stretching, grasping, lifting, holding, or operating objects with the hands up to 50 times per day

  • Using visual abilities that include focus, color perception, and depth perception

  • Operating or traveling in passenger and commercial vehicles

 

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • At least 10 years of experience as an Electrical or Industrial Superintendent or in a related construction leadership position

  • Experience managing large, complex electrical construction projects valued at $20 million or more preferred

  • Experience with heavy construction and infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater treatment facilities, power plants, data centers, or other mission-critical facilities preferred

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, project contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders

  • Ability to travel as required
