TheProjects Group is responsible for developing, delivering and assuring project-related changes and improvements across the regional rail network.
The Group coordinates, integrates and delivers major projects and network change in a safe, collaborative and innovative manner, enabling V/Line to shape the improvement and modernisation of V/Line’s regional transport service.

About the role
TheHealth & Safety Manager - Projects is responsible for assisting theV/Line Projects team to facilitate a high standard of Health & Safety (H&S) management and compliance across the program’s portfolio of projects.
This will involve providing onsite specialist advice, technical support and development of safety standards and procedures across the organisation including incident investigation, hazard management and audit tasks as required.
As well as performing duties specified in this position description an employee may be required to undertake other duties or functions consistent with their classification, capabilities, and skills.
In this role, you will:
· Leading a team of Safety and Health professionals to deliver timely and quality services to Projects.
· Ensuring compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
· Liaising with stakeholders (internal & external) regarding safety matters.
· Integrate and translate organisational H&S processes and systems to the local workgroups and projects.
· Develop, support and deliver training and education to staff on identified H&S topics. This will include the training in H&S processes and systems, communicating H&S values through safety shares, toolbox talks, workplace inspections, pre-start meetings, safety interactions and training.
· Work with other H&S officers, staff and supervisors to anticipate issues and ensure consistency and effectiveness in V/Line’s approach to H&S.
· Identify and manage H&S risks as per V/Line processes through auditing, investigation and incident response as required.
· Promote and support health and wellbeing programs being delivered by the H&S function across the region.
· Promote and input into Safeworking training for all V/Line personnel and contractors/service providers working on the V/Line Network that addresses risks to safety SFAIRP (So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable).
· Reviewing onsite safeworking, with all parties V/Line, Contractors and Services for compliance, with the aim of mentoring, coaching and improving applied practice.
· Generate the H&S reporting, providing metrics on H&S KPIs, trend analysis and reporting of incidents.

About you
Your role as theHealth & Safety Manager - Projects will be responsible for operating within functional workgroups to actively improve health, wellness and safety performance within V/Line.
To be considered for entry into the selection process for this role, applicants must meet the following 'key selection criteria' which forms part of our merit-based recruitment process:
1. Strong working knowledge of OH&S and Rail Safety legislation, and industry standards
2. 5+ years’ experience in either a senior H&S or Rail Safety position or similar position within the Rail Infrastructure / Construction sectors and at least 1 years in a management role
3. Strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
4. Strong Leader, who can inspire and motivate teams, along with providing direction and manage performance
5. Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
The selection process may include aptitude assessments and a behavioural interview. It is expected that all employees complete at least 12 months of continuous service in their current position before making an application for an alternate role.
