Reporting to the Manager Rail Systems Modelling, could you be our next Rail Systems Modelling Analyst?
About the role
As a Rail Systems Modelling Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting the planning and development of Victoria's regional rail network. Working within the Network Strategy & Planning team, you will contribute to the creation, maintenance and validation of rail system models that help shape future service planning, operational performance and infrastructure investment decisions.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent STEM graduate or early-career analyst looking to build expertise in transport modelling, data analytics and strategic planning. You will work with operational and demand data, develop insights through quantitative analysis, support scenario testing and simulation activities, and contribute to the continuous improvement of rail planning tools and methodologies.
Joining a specialist modelling team, you'll have the opportunity to learn industry-leading rail planning systems, collaborate with experienced professionals and make a meaningful contribution to projects that influence the future of rail services across Victoria.
About you
We're seeking a curious and analytical problem solver who enjoys working with data to uncover insights and support evidence-based decision making. You may be a recent graduate or an early-career professional with a background in engineering, mathematics, statistics, data science, transport planning or a related STEM discipline. Â
To be successful, you will bring:
·       Demonstrated experience in quantitative analysis and working with complex datasets.
·       Advanced skills across the Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel, with the ability to manipulate, analyse and present data effectively.
·       Experience using R, SQL/SQR and/or data visualisation tools to develop insights and communicate findings.
·       Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information for different audiences.
·       A proactive mindset, strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
·       A willingness to learn, challenge existing thinking and contribute to innovative solutions that improve rail network outcomes.
To be considered for entry into the selection process for this role, applicants must meet the following ‘key selection criteria’, which forms part of our merit-based recruitment process.
·       Demonstrable quantitative analysis experience
·       Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Suite and data visualisation tools
·       Experience with R/SQR/data visualisation systems.
It is expected that all employees complete at least 12 months of continuous service in their current position before making an application for an alternate role. Employees who are in their probationary period at the time of application are ineligible to apply.
