About the Team
As part of the Promotions team, you will be working with a group of talented and friendly individuals. Our goal is to deliver best-in-class promotional capabilities that empower marketing leaders to create compelling offers and give guests standout experiences. Â The Promotions team deals with integrating with third party providers, supporting our client developers with everything they need to be able to view and launch promotions, games, and building tools to support our marketing and operations stakeholders with configuring the perfect user experience. Importantly, we take great pride in delivering highly reliable and scalable solutions.Â
About the Work
âą Â Â Design, scale, and performance-tune GraphQL APIs, low-latency gRPC services, and SQL queries powering the promotions engine
âą Â Â Own technical problems of the highest scope and complexity, drafting proposals and presenting them to leadership and partner teams for feedback
âą Â Â Design, architect, and deliver new features end-to-end in a collaborative agile/scrum environment
âą Â Â Identify bottlenecks and areas of risk in production, and drive the changes that make the platform more scalable
âą Â Â Set up and refine monitoring and alerting in DataDog for the systems you own
âą Â Â Mentor engineers on the team and across teams that ship into our codebase, through specs, pairing, and code review
âą Â Â Other duties as required.
About YouÂ
âą Â Â You possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in Software engineering
âą Â Â A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design
âą Â Â Strong grasp of production systems at scale, and experience identifying areas of improvement in a production environment through load testing and tracing
âą Â Â Experience investigating and remediating production performance regressions, including CPU hotspots and latency regressions in high-throughput services
âą Â Â Experience with on-call rotations for a production service, including owning release cycles end-to-end
âą Â Â Passionate about clean code architecture and software craftsmanship
âą Â Â Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of authoring tech specs, runbooks, and cross-team design docs that stand up to scrutiny
âą Â Â Experience with modern web frameworks and API development (Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, Fast API, Laravel, Node)
âą Â Â 2+ Years of experience designing and evolving GraphQL schemas for product surfaces used by multiple clients (iOS, Android, Web)
âą Â Â Experience building and integrating multi-client / white-label platforms, including geo-based routing and per-client configuration
âą Â Â A strong grasp of relational databases, including PostgreSQL and MySQL
âą Â Â Experience with Kubernetes and comfort operating services in a containerized environment
âą Â Â Comfortable working in the terminal, with Git and GitHub or similar, and in an editor of your choice
âą Â Â Experience with testing frameworks such as ExUnit, RSpec, Jest, pytest, or equivalent
âą Â Â Experience with background job processing (Oban, Exq, Sidekiq, Celery, Beanstalk)
âą Â Â Experience with asynchronous event handling infrastructure (Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS, Google Cloud Pub/Sub)
âą Â Â NICE TO HAVE: building applications in Elixir, hexagonal architecture, Domain Driven Development, contribution to open source software, experience working at startups, passion for sports and/or esports
