Halpert CPAs is looking for a part-time, work-from-home Accountant to serve our non-profit client base. Â
This position will be based out of your home office, working between 10-30 hours per week. This position offers PTO and a retirement plan with an employer match.Â
As an Accountant, you will support a number of non-profit organizations remotely, by doing their monthly accounting and reviewing the bookkeeping done by their in-house staff. You will prepare finance reports for review by staff, board, and other stakeholders. Members of the firm provide vacation coverage for colleagues when needed and are involved in the continual improvement of the firm's systems.Â
Our ideal candidate has experience with balance sheet account reconciliations and financial statement preparation. This candidate will be able to consistently produce high quality finance reports but also know when to ask for help. Halpert CPAs seeks an Accountant with the confidence and humility to be a supportive teacher and an eager student.Â
Essential Responsibilities:Â
Monthly AccountingÂ
- Performs bank and credit card account reconciliationsÂ
- Reviews and adjusts balance sheet accounts to supporting schedules, including prepaid expenses, vacation time, and fixed assetsÂ
- Allocates shared costs to functions (program, administration, and fundraising) for the statement of functional expensesÂ
- Tracks expenses for grants received and adjusts temporarily restricted net asset balancesÂ
- Reviews transaction detail, noting coding changes and using them as opportunities to train the clientÂ
- Produces a set of monthly finance reports for staff and boardÂ
- Checks 990 returns and audited financial statements to client recordsÂ
Guidance and SupportÂ
- Responds to client questions in a timely manner using the most effective mode of communication for the situationÂ
- Trains clients in the proper use of QuickBooks Online (QBO) and the best practices developed by our firmÂ
Other DutiesÂ
- Implements improvements proactively to client and our firm’s systems when relevantÂ
- Reports hours worked accurately and on a daily basisÂ
- Responds to colleague and supervisor questions and requests in a timely mannerÂ
- Other duties as assignedÂ
QualificationsÂ
- Proficiency with QuickBooks, Excel, web-based cloud tools, and Google Drive AppsÂ
- Basic knowledge of GAAP required; familiarity with non-profit GAAP preferredÂ
- Experience with monthly close accounting tasksÂ
- Experience working with supporting schedules (fixed assets, prepaid expenses, etc.)Â
- Ability to analyze financial statementsÂ
- Experience in accounting at a small- or mid-sized non-profit organization preferredÂ
- Experience teaching QuickBooks bookkeeping to non-accountants preferredÂ
- Ability to be patient and flexible in dealing with clients and colleagues at different comfort levels with accountingÂ
- Professional manner in all communicationÂ
- Co-operative and balanced approach to workÂ
