At QUT Online, the student is at the forefront of everything we do. This role is an opportunity to support and guide our students through their learning journey. Our Online Learning Advisers (OLAs) are the subject matter experts who facilitate the student’s learning, with a focus on helping them achieve their goals.Ā Ā Ā 

We are seeking an experienced software development professional to support postgraduate students studying software engineering, object-oriented design, and modern web application development. This role is ideal for a hands-on developer, software engineer, technical lead, or solutions architect with current industry experience and strong coding capabilities in object-oriented programming and Python.

Experience with technologies such as Python, Flask, MySQL, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and Bootstrap is highly regarded, as is previous teaching, training, mentoring, or online facilitation experience. Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, along with at least 5 years of relevant industry experience.

What You’ll DoĀ 

As an OLA, you’ll ensure students experience high-quality, positive learning by:Ā 

  • Facilitating learning activities that engage and retain studentsĀ 
  • Marking assessments and providing meaningful, constructive feedbackĀ 
  • Supporting communication through discussion boards, emails, and live sessions – ensuring visibility to students every 24-48 hoursĀ 
  • Collaborating with academic teams to maintain unit qualityĀ 
  • Upholding OES values to foster a positive team culture and student experienceĀ 

OLAs are not responsible for curriculum design, assessment creation, or scheduling.Ā

About YouĀ 

We’re seeking educators who are:Ā 

  • Qualified: Hold a minimum Masters in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Experienced: 5+ years industry experience
  • Experience with technologies such as Python, Flask, MySQL, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and Bootstrap is highly regarded, as is previous teaching, training, mentoring, or online facilitation experience
  • Desirable: experience reviewing other developers' code and giving feedback on it.
  • Desirable: experience assessing live code demonstrations or technical interviews.
  • Desirable: teaching or studying in an online environment, and priorĀ teachingĀ or mentoring.
  • Empathetic: Understand the challenges faced by online learnersĀ 
  • Organised & proactive: Able to manage time and responsibilities independentlyĀ 
  • Tech-confident: Comfortable navigating online learning platformsĀ 
  • Student-focused: Passionate about helping students succeedĀ 
  • Flexibility to work sessional part-time: 8 hours per week. Hours may increase depending on assessment/marking cadences and the number of student groups you support.Ā 
  • Located in AustraliaĀ
