Job Summary

• Plan and design new software components, systems and applications for Remote PHY devices , FDx AMPs and related systems and components such as code download, network authentication and encryption, monitoring and troubleshooting tools, etc.

• Develop and implement new Remote PHY/FDx AMPs software, including all control plane and data plane, using modern network techniques and software languages, including C/C++, Unix OS, Yocto framework and open source RDK platform etc.

• Support all phases of development and testing activities for Remote PHY CS, applications and related components from inception to qualification, from deployment to operations, including troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem resolution.

• Collaborate with a cross-functional team of developers, including Comcast employees, contractors and suppliers, either on-site or off-site, both on-shore and off-shore, focused on the development of Remote PHY Node, FDx AMP devices and related systems and components.

• Support running, troubleshooting and upgrading Remote PHY Node, FDx AMP software, applications and related components in very large-scale customer serving networks.

• Analyze, test and assist with the integration of new applications.
Background and Experience

• Hard-core development of access network components and systems.

• Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment.

• Hands-on with Jenkins, Concourse, and related systems.

• Detailed technical documentation of all development activity.

• Technical management and support for on-site and off-site teams, both on-shore and off-shore.

• Guidance and support to other engineers and software developers.

• Understanding of operational needs.

Core Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements.

• Conduct analysis to determine integration needs.

• Design & develop new software and applications, support applications under development, and customize current applications.

• Develop software update processes for existing applications.

• Assist in the roll-out of software releases.

• Train junior Software Development Engineers on internally developed software applications.

• Oversee the researching, writing, and editing of documentation and technical requirements, including software designs, evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals, and formal recommendations and reports.

• Keep current with technological developments within the industry. Monitor and evaluate competitive applications and products. Review literature, patents, and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.

• Work with Operations and Quality Assurance teams to determine if applications fit specification and technical requirements. Test and evaluate systems, subsystems, and components.

• Present and defend architectural, design, and technical choices to internal and external audiences.

• Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

• Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

• 6-8 years of SW system development and management

• 5+ years of real-time system development experience

• 5+ years of DOCSIS mod/demod system development experience

• Experience working in a DevOps organization is required.

• Proficient in C/C++ and scripting (Bash, Python, Perl, etc.) is required.

• Proficiency with Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, and Jira systems is strongly preferred.

• Advanced knowledge of modern design practices is required.

• Extensive Linux (Ubuntu preferred) experience, advanced knowledge of configuring Linux/Unix systems, and Linux programming are required.

• Experience with AWS, Java Certification and Docker & Kubernetes is a plus

• Experience with Remote PHY, DOCSIS device development is strongly desired

• Detailed understanding of, and experience with, the DOCSIS, DSG, PacketCable and PCMM protocols, and related components, such as cable modems, MTAs and/or set-top boxes is required.

• Experience with RF and cable plant engineering, including modulation techniques, RF performance characterization, forward error correction, multiple access techniques, system link budgets for signal level and noise and interference toleration, data throughputs, reliability, availability, latency, jitter, customer experience for voice, video, and data services over fiber optic, coaxial cable and wireless networks is strongly desired.

• Experience working with industry organizations and members, including CableLabs and SCTE, and with other cable operators is strongly desired.

• Experience in standards development is highly desirable.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
