An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Delivery Manager within Thales Optronics and Missile Electronics (OME). The successful candidate will initially undertake the role of Engineering Delivery Manager within the Sea business.

This role will be part of the team on the largest in-service support programme within OME. This role will lead the engineering delivery team who are focussed on specific support projects within the programme.

As the Engineering Delivery Manager you will work in collaboration with the Programme Managers, Project Design Authorities and the wider engineering team, as well as working in collaboration with the Senior Engineering Delivery Manager for Sea and the Head of Engineering Delivery to ensure delivery of the engineering aspects of the full programme.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Reporting of the monthly engineering delivery metrics for the overall programme to the Programme Director and Senior Engineering Delivery Manager for Sea
• Representing OME at the Monthly Engineering Forum for the programme
• Collaborating with the Programme Platform Integration Manger to ensure alignment to the high level programme priorities
• Acting as the People Manager for the engineering team on the programme, providing feedback into the people manager reviews supported by the Senior Engineering Delivery Manager for Sea
• Leading high performing, multi-discipline engineering teams to generate engineering solutions that meet the Customer needs
• The definition of the engineering delivery strategy and resource profile based on the engineering estimates to ensure the delivery of the overall programme and specific projects
• Managing the interfaces with the overall delivery strategy for the wider programme
• Working with the Programme Manager to define the organisation and work breakdown required to deliver to the Customer needs
• Engineering delivery for the overall programme, including defining and being responsible for meeting cost, schedule and quality
• Engineering delivery for the specific projects, including defining and being responsible for meeting cost, schedule and quality
• Defining the engineering team’s work packages in terms of resources required, budgets assigned to each task, risks and assumptions on these and the timescales to deliver within
• The planning and prioritisation of activities required to deliver the solution to the contract schedule, costs and quality
• Day to day management of the engineering team’s activities ensuring proactive management of issues, opportunities and risks
• The identification of re-use opportunities across specific project and across the overall programme

The successful candidate will have a strong background in engineering with experience in successfully defining and leading the delivery of multi-disciplinary engineering projects. They will be highly customer focused with excellent communication skills and have the ability to work in a fast moving environment with multiple parallel objectives. Knowledge and experience of naval products would be beneficial to this role.

This role will work closely with the Programme Manager and the Project Design Authority (PDA) for the specific projects. This role will report to the Senior Engineering Delivery Manager for Sea.

Security Clearance Requirement:

Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions.  This role requires Security Clearance (SC). It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment. 

To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years.  In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
