Job Description

Location:

Great Plains Correctional Center / Medical

Basic Purpose:  

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for performing technical direct and indirectnursing care in a clinic, hospital, institution, or home setting for individuals under the supervision ordirection of a registered nurse, licensed physician, or dentist. This includes taking temperatures, pulse,respiration, and blood pressure, and various other technical nursing tasks in providing health care topatients and others. 

 

Typical Functions:  

  • Performs nursing procedures or specialized functionsin accordance with knowledge, skills, and licensure. 

  • Participates in the evaluation of responses to interventions. 

  • Teaches basic nursing skills and related principles. Delegates nursing care taskssuch as: takingtemperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, giving enemas, douches, and sitzbaths, collecting specimens, and measuring intake and output. 

  • Assists in assessing, reporting, and recording health status of patients, families, and groups in avariety of settings. 

  • Participates in developing and implementingappropriate aspects of a plan of care. 

  • Administers medications as ordered. 

  • Reportsappropriate patient information to supervisor orappropriate health team member. 

  • Serves as Charge Nurse on a unit, supervising staff performing medication administration andpatient care.

Level I  

This is the basic level of thejob family where employees perform routine entry-level tasks under closeprofessional supervision and in a training status to build their skills in providing nursing care as a licensedpractical nurse. 

 

Level II  

This is the career level ofthis job family where employees are assigned responsibility for performing a full range of nursing assignments as a Licensed Practical Nurse and perform nursing tasks at the full performance level in providing care to patients or clients. Responsibilities will include providing guidance and training to others in completing routine nursing tasks and activities. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies:  

 

Level I  

Knowledge,Skills and Abilitiesrequired at this level include knowledge of nursing techniques,procedures, practices, and theory; of medical terminology; and of infection control measures.Ability isrequired to exercise sound judgment; to follow detailed oral or written instructions; and toestablish and maintain effective working relationships with others. 

 

LevelII  

Knowledge,Skills and Abilitiesrequired at this level include knowledge of nursing techniques, procedures, practices, and theory; of medical terminology; and of infection control measures.  

 

Ability isrequired to exercise sound judgment; to follow detailed oral or written instructions; toestablish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to provide nursing care to patients or clients. 

 

Education and Experience:  

 

Level I  

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of possession of a valid permanentOklahoma license as a licensed practical nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing or,Licensed Practical Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). 

 

Level II  

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of possession of a valid permanent Oklahoma license as a licensed practical nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing plus one year of practical nursing experience; or Licensed Practical Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) plus one year of practical nursing experience. 

 

Special Requirements:  

Some positions may require that applicants be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normallyassociated with the position. 

 

Applicants with the Department of Corrections must be willing and able to work any assigned shift or dayof the week, andadditional shifts asrequired. 

 

Some agencies may have determined positions in this job family to be safety sensitive as defined by63O.S. § 427.8.

This is an on-site position and is not eligible for remote work.
