HR Generalist - US and Canada

Location: Arlington, VA (100% In-Office)

Job Summary

We are seeking an agile, detail-oriented HR Generalist with 2 to 4 years of hands-on experience to support our workforce across the United States and Canada. In this 100% on-site role based in Arlington, VA, you will manage day-to-day HR operations, ensure regional compliance, and act as our Workday Super-User. You will serve as the highly visible, go-to partner for local employees and managers, handling everything from walk-in inquiries and onboarding to cross-border benefits administration and system data integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Workday & HRIS Management

• • Data Integrity: Maintain accurate employee records in Workday, including hires, terminations, promotions, and transfers.
  • Process Optimization: Initiate, track, and approve business processes within Workday.
  • Reporting: Generate standard and custom Workday reports to support HR metrics, compliance, and leadership decisions.
  • User Support: Serve as the primary on-site contact for employee and manager self-service Workday troubleshooting.

  North American HR Operations & Compliance

  • • Regional Compliance: Ensure compliance with US federal laws, state-specific employment laws and Canadian federal/provincial regulations.
    • Onboarding & Offboarding: Facilitate an engaging, face-to-face onboarding lifecycle, including localized background checks, work authorization, etc.
    • Benefits & Payroll Support: Coordinate with benefits and payroll shared-services to administer US and Canadian benefits.
    • Policy Management: Help update and maintain policies.
    • Learning & Development: Support the implementation and execution of LD programs, leveraging shared services to tailor solutions that meet business needs.

    On-Site Employee Relations & Workplace Culture

    • • Walk-In Support: Act as the first line of contact for in-office employee inquiries regarding policies, leaves of absence, and career milestones.
      • Conflict Resolution: Conduct low-to-medium risk employee relations investigations and document findings objectively.
      • Office Engagement: Plan and execute on-site culture initiatives, team-building events, recognition programs, and regional engagement activities.
      • Collaboration: Partner closely with leadership to maintain a positive, productive, and compliant workspace.

Qualifications & Skills

Experience & Education

• • Experience: 2 to 4 years of progressive HR Generalist experience.
  • Regional Expertise: Proven experience managing HR operations simultaneously for bothUS and Canadian workforces.
  • Systems: Minimum 1 to 2 years of daily, hands-on experience utilizingWorkday (Core HR and Absence modules).

  Soft Skills & Competencies

  • • On-Site Presence: Strong interpersonal skills with a preference for resolving issues face-to-face.
    • Cross-Border Knowledge: Deep understanding of the core differences between US and Canadian employment landscapes (e.g., at-will employment vs. reasonable notice).
    • Data Fluency: Exceptional attention to detail when auditing HR data and managing system workflows.
    • Discretion: High level of integrity when handling confidential and sensitive employee relations data.
