Locum - Music Teacher (part-time)

TO QUALIFY TO JOIN OUR MUSIC TEAM YOU WOULD:

• Hold a minimum of a BMus (or equivalent) or a teaching licentiate in Music or a related field.
• Have experience teaching Music in a school environment, particularly in the Junior School and/or Senior School.
• Be confident working with learners across different age groups, from Early Childhood through to Senior School.
• Be able to teach creatively, interact positively with children of all ages, and adapt to the needs of different classes.
• Be SACE registered and provide clearance with the Child Protection Act and Sexual Offenders Register.

OUR EXPECTATIONS ARE THAT YOU WOULD:

Be available for thefull Term 1, 2027 locum period, from Monday 11 January to Friday 19 March 2027.

Provide locum teaching cover across the Music Department, including:

• Grade R and Grade RR & RRR Class Music. All curriculum content will be provided and established in advance.
• TeachGrade 8 Subject Music, following the existing ABRSM-based curriculum, supplemented by additional course materials and resources.
• Ensure that Grade 8 learners are adequately prepared for all established content. All curriculum content, assessment requirements and deadlines will be provided and established in advance.
• Be involved in theMusic Department’s Grade 8 Orientation Programme at the start of the year.
• Attend relevantstart-of-term meetings and weekly Music Department meetings
• Ideally havepiano skills, which would be advantageous for covering a small number of individual piano lessons when required and assist withSenior Choir piano accompaniment at scheduled rehearsal and/or performance times.
• Be available to assist as abackstage hand for the Music and Drama Musical Production (technical rehearsals and show days). The Head of Performance, Miss Marina Solomon, will liaise with the successful applicant regarding the specific requirements and times.
• Have good administrative skills; experience with school administration systems and/or entering school app information would be advantageous, but is not essential.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
• Be able to step into established programmes and routines with minimal disruption, following the department’s existing planning, assessment and administrative requirements.
• Be flexible and willing to assist with other reasonable Music Department requirements as needed during the locum period.
• Function independently as well as part of a team, contributing to the culture and ethos of the school.
• Embrace continuous learning, demonstrating self-discipline, enthusiasm and integrity.
• Communicate confidently with students, parents and staff, with excellent English written and spoken skills.
