Legal Engineer - Litigation

from 🇦🇺 Australia

We are closely partnering with a seed funded, fast growth legal automation/ AI firm. Join this growing team in a hybrid role, working from Sydney CBD. Lawyer level salary, bonus and share options post probation.

The solution is a case management and workflow automation across all areas of litigation including commercial disputes, property, employment, insolvency, debt recovery, and general civil. The solutions is built for litigation teams who are drowning in procedural administration instead of focusing on case strategy. If you prefer to split your time between practicing law and legal engineering, this is also possible.

You are working at Senior Associate or Special Counsel level and keen to move into legal technology. You will help build the litigation management platform that automates case workflows, critical date tracking, document assembly, and court compliance across all areas of litigation (commercial, property, employment, insolvency, and general civil). We need someone who has lived litigation as a practitioner and wants to translate that expertise into software that transforms how litigation teams operate.

About the Role

  • Define litigation workflows, checklists, and automation rules across all areas of litigation (commercial disputes, property litigation, employment, insolvency, debt recovery, general civil)

  • Map court rules, filing requirements, limitation periods, and procedural steps for Australian jurisdictions (NSW priority, then national expansion)

  • Work with the development team to translate legal processes into product features, data models, and automation logic

  • Design templates for court documents, correspondence, and compliance checklists

  • Identify and prioritise the highest-value automation opportunities — where firms waste the most time on repetitive procedural work

  • Support the GTM team with domain expertise for sales conversations, demos, and client onboarding

  • Continuously validate product features with practising litigation lawyers to ensure accuracy and practical relevance

  • Stay current with procedural and regulatory changes that affect litigation workflows

About You

  • 6+ years of experience practising litigation in an Australian law firm (any area: commercial, property, employment, insolvency, or general civil)

  • Deep understanding of Australian court procedures, filing requirements, limitation periods, and case management across at least one jurisdiction

  • Ability to articulate complex legal processes as structured, step-by-step workflows

  • Strong attention to detail — litigation has zero tolerance for missed deadlines

  • Genuine interest in technology and willingness to learn how software is built

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience across multiple areas of litigation (not just one specialisation)

  • Exposure to legal technology products or practice management systems

  • Experience documenting processes, SOPs, or training materials

  • Familiarity with court e-filing systems (eLodgment, JusticeLink, etc.)

  • Understanding of costs assessment and billing workflows in litigation
