The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salarycommensurate with education and experience. The starting hiring range for this position is$115,683.00 - $156,172.00/year.We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include butare not limited to:

Location & Schedule 

 

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model.Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site in the field, as needed.Employees must work within the state of Colorado on theirremote days.  

 

In this position you can expect to workout in the field oron-site, three (3) days a week at:Wellington E. Webb Building – 201 W Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80202.

DOTI isseeking an innovative andexperienced transportation professional to serve asaSpecialist on theTraffic Engineering and Safety (TES) team - a high-performing team responsible for ensuring the safety, performance, and reliability of Denver’s transportation system. TES includes two main work areas –1)review &regulate; and 2)programmaticsafetyprojects. This position will primarily focus onmanaging a team aroundTES’sprogrammaticsafetyprojectwork–including workonArea Engineering, Pedestrian Crossing, Traffic Calming, Traffic Signal (corridor retiming), Bikeways, and Transit programs.This position will champion Vision Zero and the Safe Systems approach, bringing both deep technicalexpertise and provenmanagement skills to foster innovation and sound projectprocess, and support staff’s growth and development.  

 

This position will report directly to the TES Senior Manager.As theEngineerSpecialist,you will: 

  

  • Provide technical, operational, and strategic direction fortrafficengineering analyses,planning efforts, design documents,and projectimplementation. Programs this position isanticipated to support include Area Engineering,Pedestrian Crossing, Traffic Calming, Traffic Signal (corridor retiming), Bikeways, and Transit programs. 

  • Lead and supervise a teamresponsible for the design oftransportationand trafficsafetyprojects and programs, including managing theirworkload, performance, professional development, and resource allocation. 

  • Provide quality assurance and technical oversight of engineering designs, construction documents, and consultant deliverables. 

  • Manage and coordinateconsultants, contractors, internal departments, utilities, regional agencies, and other project stakeholders. 

  • Develop and implement engineering standards, policies, procedures, and process improvements to improve project delivery and operational efficiency. 

  • Work collaboratively with DOTI’s Vision Zero team to implement Vision Zero and Safe Systemsprojects, including systemic safety programs and data-driven risk mitigation. 

  • Improve system operations through enhanced signal timing strategies, congestion mitigation, and multimodal performance optimization. 

  • Analyze project and program data toestablish performance measures,identify trends, and support data-driven decision-making. 

  • Represent the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure onits transportation programs and projects, including coordination with community stakeholders, elected officials, partner agencies, and the public. 

  • Resolve complex technical, operational, and stakeholder issues while balancing safety, equity, mobility, cost, schedule, and community needs. 

  • Mentor and develop engineering and project management staff while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and continuous-improvement culture.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:  

  • Bachelors degree inCivil Engineering with at least3 years of experience at the level of a Senior Engineer.  

  • Demonstrated leadership skills in mentoring, supervisingengineeringprofessionals from interns to PE licensed engineers while supporting both technical and professional growth. 

  • Progressive responsibilities in transportation engineering, infrastructure design, construction, or project management. 

  • Strong analytical skills to overseean engineering team to interpret and draw conclusions from a variety of data sources including traffic, safety,orwarrant studies and other data sets. 

  • Experience designing,reviewing and preparingconstruction documents and/or work orders forroadway and multimodal improvement projects including traffic signals, traffic signal timing,traffic calming,pedestrian crossing improvements, bikeways, and transitways. 

  • Excellent organization and communicationskillsto helpstrengthen team effectiveness and educate others ontraffic engineering and safety principles. 

  • Experience with Federal and State funded projects. 

  • A comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and City agency policies, standards, and systems. 

  • Experience and comfort working within a matrix management environment. 

 

RequiredMinimum Qualifications 

 

  • Education requirement:Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture. 

  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of senior engineering or architecture experience. 

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education ispermitted.Additionalappropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements. 

  • License/Certifications:Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application.Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation.Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
