One of LSC's Child and Family communities is seeking a full-time Education Coordinator in Asheville, North Carolina.

Position Summary
The Education Coordinator works with newly arrived refugee and immigrant children and their families through the School Impact Program and Youth Mentoring Program. This position helps students improve academic performance, social adjustment, and school engagement while supporting parents in becoming active participants in their children's education. The Education Coordinator serves as a liaison between students, families, and schools, coordinating educational activities, tutoring, mentoring programs, parent engagement initiatives, and community-based learning opportunities.
Essential Responsibilities
Student Support & Youth Programming
- Engage eligible children in after-school programs designed to improve academic success and social adjustment.
- Coordinate tutoring, mentoring, educational enrichment, and extracurricular activities.
- Support vulnerable youth populations, including adolescents and LGBTQ+ youth, through age-appropriate educational and developmental programming.
- Facilitate workshops and activities covering topics such as bullying prevention, substance abuse awareness, social development, and life skills.
- Promote student participation in educational, recreational, and community activities.
School & Family Engagement
- Assist families with school enrollment and orientation processes.
- Serve as a liaison between students, families, and school personnel.
- Consult with teachers, counselors, and school administrators regarding student progress and adjustment.
- Advocate for students and address concerns impacting educational success.
- Help families understand school expectations, resources, and opportunities.
Parent-Focused Activities
- Develop and implement activities that encourage parent engagement in their children's education.
- Conduct home visits and school visits as appropriate.
- Coordinate parent conferences and educational workshops.
- Assist families with school paperwork, requirements, and communication with schools.
- Facilitate educational activities, including ESL opportunities and workshops that strengthen family involvement and school participation.
Program Support
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to program activities.
- Coordinate educational events and special projects.
- Collaborate with schools, community organizations, volunteers, and service providers.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Refugee Services Coordinator.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Equivalent years of teaching experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience
- Experience working with refugee, immigrant, or newly arrived families preferred.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, families, schools, or educational programs preferred.
- Experience coordinating educational, youth development, or community programs is a plus.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related technology tools.

- Ability to transport clients in a personal vehicle when necessary.
Working Conditions
- Primarily in-person work in Asheville, NC.
- Combination of office, school, home, and community-based settings.
- Frequent interaction with children, families, school personnel, and community partners.
- Local travel required for school visits, home visits, meetings, and program activities.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and work at a computer for extended periods.
