The Business Analytics & Research (BAR) group is part of NBCUniversalâs Intellectual Property Analytics, Operations, and Technology (IPAOT) team responsible for supporting NBCUniversalâs content globally. The BAR team combines data science, economics, consumer research, and business analytics to understand how audiences discover and consume content, quantify the impact of piracy on NBCUniversal businesses, evaluate the effectiveness of content protection efforts, and identify emerging risks in the rapidly evolving digital media ecosystem.Â
The Jr. Data Scientist will support a wide range of analytical initiatives that inform content protection, distribution, streaming, and business strategy decisions across NBCUniversal's film, television, sports, and direct-to-consumer businesses.Â
Responsibilities:Â
- Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends in consumer behavior, content consumption, piracy activity, and digital distributionÂ
- Support and enhance existing analytical models, reporting products, dashboards, and research programs while contributing to the development of new analytical capabilitiesÂ
- Support the development and maintenance of statistical models used to measure the impact of piracy and content protection activities on business outcomesÂ
- Assist with forecasting, risk assessment, title prioritization, and strategic decision-support initiativesÂ
- Develop recurring reports, dashboards, and data products that provide timely intelligence and present to business stakeholders and senior leadershipÂ
- Conduct exploratory analyses to uncover drivers of piracy behavior, content demand, and audience engagementÂ
- Support research projects that combine survey data, behavioral data, business performance metrics, and empirical piracy datasets to answer strategic business questionsÂ
- Partner with research, operations, and technology teams to improve data quality, analytical workflows, and reporting capabilitiesÂ
- Translate analytical findings into clear business recommendations through presentations, visualizations, and written summariesÂ
- Explore and evaluate new analytical approaches, including AI, statistical modeling, machine learning, and emerging data science techniquesÂ
- Support ad hoc analyses and special projects across the broader IPAOT organizationÂ
Basic Requirements:Â
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, Operations Research, Social Science, or a related quantitative fieldÂ
- 2+ years of demonstrated experience applying quantitative analysis to real-world problems through academic research, internships, consulting engagements, or professional workÂ
- Proficiency in SQLÂ
- Experience using Python, R, or similar analytical programming languagesÂ
- Understanding of statistical concepts including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, experimental design, and predictive modelingÂ
- Experience cleaning, validating, and analyzing structured datasetsÂ
- Ability to communicate analytical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiencesÂ
- Experience creating data visualizations and dashboards using Tableau, Power BI, or similar toolsÂ
- Strong analytical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and problem-solving skillsÂ
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPointÂ
Desired Characteristics:Â
- Experience with econometrics, causal inference, forecasting, machine learning, or other advanced analytical techniquesÂ
- Experience working with behavioral, consumer, digital media, technology, or content-related datasetsÂ
- Familiarity with cloud-based analytics environments, data warehousing technologies, or modern data engineering workflowsÂ
- Exposure to survey research, experimentation, or consumer insights methodologiesÂ
- Knowledge of the media, entertainment, streaming, technology, or digital platform landscapeÂ
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted tools to improve analytical workflows and productivityÂ
- Interest in understanding consumer behavior and decision-making within digital media and technology ecosystemsÂ
- Interest in content protection, online piracy, cybersecurity, or technology policyÂ
Hybrid:Â This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the Universal City, CA office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.Â

Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000Â
