Your opportunity

The Housing Officer plays an important role in supporting people living in social, affordable, and transitional housing by managing tenancies and helping tenants maintain stable housing. The role is a mix of tenant support, property management, and administration, including conducting property inspections, managing rent and arrears, coordinating tenancy agreements, maintaining accurate records, and connecting tenants with support services when needed.

You'll work closely with tenants, community partners, and internal teams to create positive housing outcomes, while ensuring services are delivered in line with legislation, compliance requirements, and Mission Australia Housing's commitment to supporting strong and connected communities.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Manage a portfolio of social, affordable, and transitional housing tenancies, ensuring high-quality tenancy and property management services.
• Support tenants to sustain their tenancies by providing guidance on rights, responsibilities, and access to appropriate support services.
• Monitor and manage rent payments, rental arrears, tenancy breaches, and income reviews in line with policy and legislation.
• Conduct routine property inspections, condition reports, and vacating inspections, ensuring accurate documentation is maintained.
• Maintain accurate tenancy and property records, ensuring compliance with regulatory, funding, and organisational requirements.
• Prepare and contribute to operational reports, including tenancy performance, vacancies, arrears, and key performance indicators.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with tenants, community partners, government agencies, housing providers, and internal stakeholders.
• Represent Mission Australia Housing at court, tribunal, stakeholder, and interagency meetings as required, while supporting continuous improvement and positive tenant outcomes.

Requirements for success

• Previous experience in community housing, social housing, tenancy management, or a related human services environment.
• Certificate IV in Social Housing is highly desirable
• Strong knowledge of tenancy legislation, rent management, property inspections, and tenancy support practices.
• Proven ability to build positive relationships with tenants, community partners, government agencies, and internal stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to manage sensitive conversations professionally and respectfully.
• Strong administrative and reporting skills, including maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance requirements are met.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, work autonomously, and achieve performance targets in a fast-paced environment.
• A customer-focused approach with genuine empathy, resilience, and a commitment to supporting positive tenant outcomes.
• Current driver's licence and the ability to obtain required employment checks, including a National Police Check and Working with Children Check.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
