We're looking for aPlatform Engineer with strong technical leadership to join our team đ¶đ, working on a strategic project for one of our banking clients. This is a Tech Lead / Staff Engineer role: someone who leads through influence and technical credibility rather than formal authority, brings sharp architectural judgment, and raises the bar for the engineering team through example, standards, and clear decision-making.
This role is critical to the platform's technical direction. You'll partner closely with existing technical leads and stakeholders, challenge decisions with solid reasoning, and help the team navigate complex modernization efforts â including legacy/on-prem environments â in a demanding, high-standards financial industry setting.

Responsibilities đ€
- Provide technical leadership across the platform team, influencing and guiding decisions without relying on formal authority.
- Evaluate and challenge architectural decisions with solid reasoning, identifying wrong paths early and proposing corrections.
- Apply strong, up-to-date knowledge of modern backend (Python, APIs, microservices, CI/CD) and/or the modern data stack (dbt, Redshift, orchestration, Data Mesh) to unblock concrete problems and support technical decisions.
- Use AI tools intensively as part of the daily engineering workflow (PoCs, code reviews, documentation).
- Collaborate with existing technical leads, co-creating solutions and finding common ground while sustaining technical disagreements without damaging relationships.
- Communicate decisions through ADRs/RFCs, setting and raising the team's engineering standards.
- Support modernization efforts, balancing new architecture with legacy/on-prem constraints.Â
Required Skillsđ»
- Proven experience as a Tech Lead or Staff Engineer, leading through influence, consensus, and example.
- Strong architectural judgment, with experience challenging and validating technical decisions.
- Solid, current knowledge of modern backend engineering (Python, APIs, microservices, CI/CD) and/or the modern data stack (dbt, Redshift, orchestration, Data Mesh) â sufficient depth in at least one to unblock the team on concrete problems.
- Active use of AI tools in daily engineering work (PoCs, reviews, documentation).
- Strong political and interpersonal skills â able to co-create with existing technical stakeholders and manage disagreement constructively.
- Experience documenting and communicating decisions via ADRs/RFCs and technical standards.Â
Required Skills ( Nice to Haves) đ»
- Experience covering both backend and the full modern data stack (one is sufficient, both is a plus).
- Experience with Internal Developer Platforms and golden paths (Backstage, NullPlatform, or similar).
- Experience with AI/LLM platforms.
- Strong DevOps knowledge, ideally with AWS.
- Experience leading modernization efforts in environments coexisting with legacy/on-prem systems.
- Previous experience in the banking/financial industry.Â
