The Role:

As a Product Designer at MRI, you will work across the UX domain, including research (user interviews, product reviews, persona development), design (sketching, group ideation, information architecture, interaction design, prototyping), documentation (wireframes, specification writing), and user testing.

As part of a cross-functional team, you will collaborate with other designers and use qualitative and quantitative data to make informed, design-related decisions. You should be proficient at converting requirements into practical product features and have a high standard for visual design execution.

We understand the need to provide a flexible working environment partnered with team collaboration and socialization. Therefore, we operate a hybrid working model with 3 days of working from home per week. This role will be based in the Cape Town or Johannesburg office.

Product Designer with ~4+ years experience delivering user-centred SaaS experiences across discovery, design, validation and delivery.

UX Job Family Overview

User Experience (UX) roles design and validate user-centered experiences for complex enterprise software. Across levels, the work spans discovery (research and synthesis), design (information architecture, interaction design, prototyping), documentation (wireframes/specifications), and validation (usability testing and iteration). AI is used to accelerate evidence capture, synthesis, ideation, and delivery—while maintaining responsible, transparent, and user-trustworthy outcomes.

Level Scope & Accountability

• Scope: Individual or multiple products/features ownership.
• Design Responsibility: Owns end-to-end feature design with guidance.
• Typical experience: 4+ years.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end user experiences by translating user needs, business requirements, and technical constraints into intuitive product solutions.

  • Create and maintain user flows, information architecture, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and detailed design specifications to support product delivery.

  • Plan, conduct, and synthesise usability testing and other discovery activities, using insights to validate and iterate design solutions.

  • Partner with Product Managers, Engineers, and fellow Designers throughout the Agile delivery process to ensure design quality and successful implementation.

  • Contribute to the evolution and adoption of the design system, UI standards, and accessibility best practices across products.

  • Continuously improve product experiences by analysing user feedback, product analytics, industry trends, and emerging technologies, including AI-assisted design workflows where appropriate.

AI & Innovation Expectations

Use AI responsibly to accelerate research synthesis, ideation, documentation and prototyping while validating outputs through human review.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • 4+ years experiences

Required Qualifications

Interaction & visual Design - Ability to design intuitive, accessible, and visually polished user experiences using Figma and established design patterns.

User-Centred Design - Applies research insights, usability testing, and iterative design practices to solve user and business problems.

Design systems & responsive Design - Experience contributing to design systems and creating consistent, responsive experiences across platforms and devices.

Technical understanding - Working knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and an understanding of technical constraints to collaborate effectively with Engineering.

Communication & delivery - Strong collaboration, stakeholder communication, time management, and attention to detail to deliver high-quality design outcomes.

AI Literacy & Design Enablement – Uses AI-assisted design tools and workflows responsibly to accelerate research synthesis, ideation, content generation, documentation, and prototyping while maintaining human oversight, accessibility, and design quality.
