Organization/Team Mission

Mercari is evolving its marketplace by introducing new, dynamic, and interactive user experiences that enable more immediate and engaging transactions between users. As part of this effort, the Trust & Safety team plays a critical role in ensuring that these emerging surfaces remain safe, trustworthy, and scalable.

This position will focus on building and operating risk mitigation frameworks for rapidly evolving user behaviors, working closely with cross-functional teams to proactively identify risks and enable safe product growth.

Work Responsibilities

• Monitor and identify abuse patterns in real-time or near real-time user interaction environments, and respond quickly through data analysis and operational insights
• Design and continuously improve scalable operational workflows and playbooks to handle time-sensitive risk scenarios and high-volume user interactions
• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations to design and implement risk mitigation strategies aligned with new product features and user experiences
• Drive end-to-end execution from risk identification to solution deployment, including rule design, workflow optimization, and tooling improvements
• Triage and make decisions on sensitive or high-risk cases, balancing platform safety and user experience under time constraints
• Design and optimize monitoring coverage and operational readiness based on risk levels and workload fluctuations (including resource allocation and prioritization)
• Actively engage in operational handling when needed, bringing hands-on insights to drive continuous improvements
• Improve detection accuracy and operational efficiency through data-driven iteration, including leveraging automation and semi-automated solutions
• Contribute to policy refinement and enforcement strategies to address newly emerging behaviors and edge cases

Unique Challenges

• Build Trust & Safety frameworks for new and evolving marketplace experiences where user behavior changes rapidly in real time
• Operate in a highly ambiguous, fast-paced environment and establish risk mitigation and operational models from scratch (0→1 phase)
• Balance speed, scalability, and user experience while maintaining a high standard of platform safety
• Work cross-functionally to influence both product design and safety mechanisms simultaneously

Qualifications

• Required Experience/Skills
• Empathy with Mercari Group’s mission and values
• Experience in Trust & Safety, Risk Operations, or Anti-abuse domains
• Proven ability to make sound decisions in high-volume, time-sensitive, or ambiguous situations
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Operations, etc.)
• Strong problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset

• Preferred Experience/Skills
• Experience in online marketplaces, social platforms, or user-generated content services
• Experience in highly interactive or real-time environments (e.g., live features, chat platforms, gaming, streaming services)
• Experience in content moderation, monitoring, or real-time review operations
• Experience handling incidents or conducting rapid response to policy violations or abuse
• Experience designing operational workflows, playbooks, escalation frameworks, or coverage models
• Familiarity with data analysis tools such as SQL or BigQuery
• Experience contributing to policy development or rule design
  
• Language 
• Japanese: Proficient (CEFR – C1) required
• English: Basic (CEFR – A2) preferred

業務内容

• リアルタイムまたは準リアルタイムで進行するユーザーインタラクション環境において、不正・abuseの兆候をモニタリングやデータ分析を通じて特定し、迅速に対応
• 時間制約のあるリスクシナリオや大量のユーザーインタラクションに対応するための、オペレーション設計・プレイブックの構築および改善
• Product / Engineering / Operationsなどのステークホルダーと連携し、新機能や新しいユーザー体験に適応したリスク対策の設計・推進
• リスクの特定から対策の実装までを一貫してリードし、ルール設計・ワークフロー最適化・ツール改善を迅速に推進
• 高リスク・高優先度案件のトリアージおよび対応方針の判断を行い、安全性とユーザー体験のバランスを考慮した意思決定を実施
• 業務量やリスク状況に応じたモニタリング体制の設計・最適化（リソース配置や対応優先度の調整を含む）
• 必要に応じて実際のオペレーション対応にも関与し、現場視点から改善提案を行う
• データに基づく改善サイクルを回し、検知精度およびオペレーション効率の継続的な向上を推進（自動化・半自動化の活用を含む）
• 新たに発生するリスクやユーザー行動に対応するためのポリシー改善および運用ルールの整備
