Clinical Supervisors work on a shift rota covering our 24/7 crisis support service. Shifts may fall on any day, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays, and are 4 hours plus 30 minutes of admin time (full time is 9 shifts, 40.5 hours per week). Your preferred number of shifts can be discussed at interview.
Most conversations taken by SHOUT occur between 18:00 and 01:00 GMT (which is New Zealand morning/daytime), so the rota is weighted towards these periods. Shift allocations are designed to match service demand and may not always match personal preferences, so flexible availability is required.Â

Job Summary
To provide online, in-the-moment clinical supervision and support to trained Volunteers/Clinical Practitioners/Qualified Practitioners in their conversations with texters on our UK 24/7 text messaging platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, communicate with and support people in their conversations with texters; continuously assessing for any imminent risk or safeguarding concerns.
- Make decisions regarding immediate safety and risk around suicidality and self-harm, following internal policies.
- Communicate with emergency services to support Texters requiring immediate, life-saving support or safeguarding.
- Work collaboratively with fellow Supervisors on shift, providing support with clinical decisions about risk and safeguarding
- Maintain clinical records and complete any follow-up administrative work, and report any concerns to Clinical Managers and/or the Safeguarding team
- Support the skills development and the wellbeing of Volunteers and conversation takers and work in close partnership with the Volunteer Support team and Conversation takersâ Manager, who support them off the platform.
- Work in partnership with the Clinical Team Leader and other supervisors to ensure that we allocate our resources to deliver the best possible service to texters
- Take conversations with texters to help manage service demand if required
- Mentoring and providing in the moment support to Qualified Practitioners and Trainee Clinical Supervisors
- Facilitating in-house training and shared development opportunities
- Regularly attend meetings, online or in person, including team meetings, one-to-ones, workshops and training
- Attend regular external clinical supervision with external personal Supervisor (paid for by MHI) with a minimum of one session per month
- Contribute to service development and continuous quality improvement within the organisation, including participation in ongoing in-person or online training and professional development
- Maintain membership, registration and/or accreditation with a relevant professional body

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Psychotherapy/Counselling/Psychology/Mental Health Nursing or Social Work practice qualification
- Accreditation/registration with the BACP, UKCP, BPS, NMC or NZAC, DAPAANZ, or equivalent relevant professional body
- Clinical/professional experience working with risk relating to suicide, self-harm, complex mental health problems and safeguarding
- Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent IT skills
- Excellent communicator; able to convey sensitive topics effectively.
- Strong multitasking skills; remains calm under pressure and in high-risk situations.
- Sound, clinically informed decision-making with a proactive, problem-solving approach.
- High resilience, adaptability, and self-motivation; works independently while staying team-connected.
- Reflective, compassionate, kind, and respectful in all interactions.
Desirable Criteria
- Qualification in Clinical Supervision
- Experience of working with children and young people
- Experience in working digitally with clients/supervisees
- Strong knowledge and experience of safeguarding, confidentiality and risk
- Sound experience of supervising groups or individuals
- Experience working rostered shifts
- Experience with crisis triage
