EDTL 636. Adv. Applied Methods in Second Language Education.

Description:The development of appropriate strategies for the teaching of second languages in diverse, contemporary contexts in a variety of program types and levels. Mobilization of digital technologies and relevant Quebec Ministry of Education professional competencies for teachers.

This course is not Team taught or offered online.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):

Education:

1. Master educator with a minimum completed master’s degree in a relevant field. PhD preferred. 

2. Strong grounding in second language acquisition, language teaching methodologies, and pedagogy in diverse educational contexts.

Experience:

1. School-based second language teaching experience, preferably ESL and preferably in Quebec. 

2. Experience supporting teacher candidates in teacher education and/or second language methods course contexts. 

3.Expert knowledge of: 

  • The Québec Education Program (QEP), including competencies and curriculum expectations relevant to second language education. 

  • Advanced pedagogical approaches and strategies for teaching second languages in diverse contemporary contexts. 

  • Second language acquisition and its implications for teaching and learning. 

  • Planning, instructional, and assessment practices relevant to second language teaching across a variety of program types and levels. 

  • Teaching in diverse and multilingual classrooms, including inclusive and equity-oriented approaches. 

  • Integration of digital technologies in second language teaching and learning. 

  • Professional competency frameworks and professional repository documentation relevant to teacher education. 

  • Research-informed and practice-based approaches to connecting language pedagogy, curriculum, and classroom implementation. 

4. Experience supporting teacher candidates in planning, implementing, rehearsing, and reflecting on second language teaching practices. 

5. Experience facilitating practice-based, collaborative, and discussion-based learning environments. 

6. Experience connecting curriculum, research, and classroom practice in second language education

Other:

1. Knowledge of the impact and experience integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion 

2. Familiarity using myCourses, Zoom and/or other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences 

3. Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools 

4. Familiarity teaching blended classes 

5. Instruction in this course may be delivered remotely if indicated as required by the university.
