Position Summary
Under the direction of the Manager Wellness Programs and Facility Operations, the Assistant Manager (Aquatics and Evening Operations) manages the planning, delivery, and daily operations of aquatic and recreation programs. Directly supervises AMUSE casuals, scheduling, and provides operational support while ensuring programs are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with departmental policies. Assists with program development, logistics, troubleshooting, and administrative functions.
Primary Responsibilities
Aquatics:
Supervise a large number of AMUSE aquatic staff. (eg: Lifeguards, Swim Instructors) This includes recruitment, training, onboarding, scheduling, evaluating & time approval of aquatics staff.
Develop aquatics programming as part of the global recreation department plan.
Develop the pool schedule.
Oversee all private lessons at the pool.
Develop and enforce pool policies and procedures. This includes but is not limited to, private lessons, lifeguard handbook, children lessons, recreational classes and operational policies/procedures.
Serve as a member of the organizing committee for all camps/children’s programming.
Assist in the development and management of the aquatics budget.
Collaborate with the facilities department for the logistics related to all pool rentals.
Ensure the pool and equipment is in good working order and report any issues to the facilities department.
Alongside HR, participate in disciplinary meetings as required.
Recreation:
Supervise a large number of AMUSE staff. (eg: Instructors, Attendants ) This includes recruitment, training, onboarding, scheduling, evaluating & time approval of staff.
Troubleshoot issues that might arise related to recreational programming, including the B2 Gym.
Complete administrative tasks such as scheduling of intramural games, updating Intramural Leagues, collecting data and feedback from participants etc.
Assist with emergency procedures/protocols. This may include building evacuations, lightning policy, medical emergencies and conflicts between participants.
Assist with operations at off-site venues (C4, Le Parc, Lowerfield, Rutherford etc). Including troubleshooting, staffing, facility related issues and evaluating Intramural teams that are on probation.
Alongside HR, participate in disciplinary meetings as required.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Lifeguarding experience (Asset).
First Aid Certified.
NLS Certified (Asset).
Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience. Minimum of three years.
Demonstrated experience leading and supervising a large unit of unionized staff.
Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Excellent communication skills.
Proven ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
Confident and adept at thriving in a fast-paced environment, utilizing strong time management and organizational skills.
Demonstrated experience working in sport and recreation.
Demonstrated ability to navigate seamlessly in Microsoft 360 - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
***Hours of Work/Heures de travail:
Tuesday to Friday 2:30pm- 10:30pm and Saturday 8:45am-4:45pm
Monday to Friday: 12:30pm-8:30pm(SUMMER HOURS)
