Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Materials Handler to support shipping, receiving, inventory control, and material movement within a manufacturing environment.
This position combines hands-on warehouse responsibilities with administrative inventory functions. The Materials Handler will receive incoming materials, process work orders, verify inventory, coordinate return materials, manage outbound shipments, and accurately record material transactions within ERP systems such as SAP.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in warehouse operations, shipping/receiving, logistics, inventory control, and ERP-based material transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive incoming materials and accurately enter receipts into the appropriate computer/ERP system.
- Process and receive work orders.
- Perform general warehouse and material-handling activities.
- Perform physical and administrative duties associated with shipping, receiving, and storing returned materials.
- Verify incoming inventory for correct labeling, quantities, and documentation.
- Coordinate and process RMA/returned materials, including recording condition, weight, and dimensions.
- Verify received materials against purchase orders and invoices.
- Maintain accurate records of returned and received materials.
- Prepare and manage outbound shipments, including packaging and crating when required.
- Move, label, organize, and track non-inventory items.
- Perform and verify inventory and material transactions.
- Reconcile part movements and material transactions and report discrepancies.
- Investigate shipping and receiving variances.
- Work with internal and external customers to resolve inventory, shipping, and receiving issues.
- Assist with shipment arrangements as required.
- Maintain accurate inventory and logistics data across multiple systems.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly departmental reports.
- Participate in logistics projects and continuous-improvement activities.
- Follow established work instructions and safety procedures.
These responsibilities are directly reflected in the requisition's shipping, receiving, RMA, inventory reconciliation, outbound shipment, and reporting duties.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in logistics, materials management, inventory control, warehouse operations, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working in an assembly or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with shipping, receiving, inventory, and material handling.
- Ability to accurately perform computer-based inventory and material transactions.
- Experience navigating an ERP system such as SAP.
- SAP Inventory Management experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to identify and resolve practical inventory or logistics problems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Excel; experience with Access is helpful.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual, accountable, and self-motivated.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Safety-focused mindset.
The requisition initially describes 3β5 years of experience but later specifies a minimum of five years in logistics or materials management/inventory control. For recruiting, I would treat 5 years as the target rather than automatically eliminating a strong 3β4 year candidate.
Physical Requirements
- Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to perform bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing as required.
- Ability to safely perform physical warehouse and material-handling activities.
