FR - Software Backend Engineer

from 🇫🇷 France

Job Title: Backend Software Engineer

Reports to: VP Software

Location: Nice (Hybrid)

Type: Full time - permanent (CDI)

The Position

We value intelligence and attitude over knowledge of specific technologies. But, as we are looking for an experienced Software Engineer (at least 5+ years of software programming experience), we would expect your background to be closely aligned with the main qualifications below.

Main Responsibilities

  • Developbackend applications according to projects and roadmap needs and contribute to the efforts of the system architecture modernisation.
  • Provide support and mentorship to less experienced colleagues.
  • Take the initiative to communicate and stay updated with the team.

Requirements

Demonstrate expertise in the backend development, specifically with Golang and/or Python (both preferred).

Strong experience with system design and architecture.

Capable of proposing alternative solutions when necessary.

Ability to clearly articulate initiatives, listen to others, and influence in a collaborative manner.

Ability to commit to timelines, accurately estimate development time, and assess risks.

Confident with the below tech stack:

  • Golang
  • Docker
  • Strong networking skills
  • GIT
  • Comfortable in Linux environments

Bonus Points for… the rest of our tech stack:

  • Python highly appreciated, with asyncio knowledge
  • Kubernetes and its ecosystem
  • Microservice architecture, Event Streaming
  • Video Processing (GStreamer / Janus / WebRTC)
  • Frontend (HTML5, Javascript, Typescript)
  • System Security, Cryptography
  • Electronics and embedded systems, serial interfaces
  • Machine Learning notions
  • DevOps tools such for CI/CD, monitoring stack

Education

We prefer at least bachelors degree level in a science or engineering discipline. Masters or PhD advantageous.

The Work Environment

  • Development on Macs and Ubuntu:We're pragmatic so realise we also have to work with Windows occasionally.
  • Small team:Embracing modern development practices. New ideas are always encouraged and we'll try most things, but we always settle on what works for us.
  • Diverse team: Our team is very multicultural including a mix of experienced engineers, successful sales and project managers balanced with the brightest young graduates.
  • Passionate: We are passionate and enjoy what we do!

Integration and interfacing

Our core activity is safety and security applications. We're bringing the latest web technologies to real-world hardware i.e. we don't work in the cloud. We interface with very diverse equipment: radar, sonar, thermal imaging, drones, software-defined radios and more. Our UI runs on touchscreen displays, tablets, phones, smart-glasses...

Challenges

If you are looking for an easy job, this isn't it. We operate in mission critical environments. Our systems can operate at sea and high security areas with limited connectivity to the data center. So, all your assumptions about cloud development techniques and operating environments will be constantly challenged. Timelines are strict, and creativity is often required to solve unexpected technical issues. It can be extremely diverse, interesting, and rewarding if you are up to the challenge!
