MarineLabs is a fast moving Coastal Intelligence data company that owns and operates a growing fleet of super rugged and rapidly deployable ocean weather instruments, producing reliable high-resolution data products in real-time to benefit marine safety and climate resilience.Â
We are seeking a curious and highly motivated Sales Development Representative (SDR) to expand MarineLabs’ market presence and generate new business opportunities across the marine and coastal sectors. The successful candidate will provide thorough account research, stakeholder mapping, outbound prospecting, and opportunity qualification to build a healthy pipeline for the sales leadership team. This role requires strong research and communication skills, active listening, and the confidence to engage senior marine operations and port professionals in meaningful discovery conversations.Â
Key Responsibilities:Â
Prospect Research & TargetingÂ
- Identify organizations that align with MarineLabs’ ideal customer profile, including ports, terminals, marine operators, ferry systems, pilot associations, government agencies, and coastal organizationsÂ
- Map complex stakeholder environments within target accountsÂ
- Identify and prioritize key decision-makers, such as Harbor Masters, Marine Operations Managers, Port Authority Leaders, Terminal Operators, and Environmental/Safety LeadersÂ
- Build and maintain targeted prospect lists within the CRMÂ
Outbound Business DevelopmentÂ
- Conduct outreach through email, LinkedIn, phone, industry events, and other channelsÂ
- Initiate conversations with marine operations professionals and executive leadersÂ
- Generate interest and uncover potential business opportunitiesÂ
- Follow up consistently and professionally through multi-touch campaignsÂ
Discovery & QualificationÂ
- Conduct initial qualification conversations to understand how organizations currently collect and use marine weather and ocean condition dataÂ
- Identify operational challenges, safety concerns, and data gapsÂ
- Explore the impact of inaccurate or insufficient marine intelligence on operationsÂ
- Understand stakeholder involvement and decision-making processesÂ
- Assess opportunity quality and readiness for next stepsÂ
CRM & Pipeline ManagementÂ
- Maintain accurate prospect and activity records in SalesforceÂ
- Track opportunities throughout the qualification processÂ
- Document discovery findings and customer challengesÂ
- Support sales forecasting and pipeline reportingÂ
Market IntelligenceÂ
- Monitor trends within ports, marine transportation, coastal infrastructure, and ocean technology marketsÂ
- Gather competitive intelligence and customer feedback, and share insights with leadershipÂ
Qualifications:Â
Must-HavesÂ
- 1-3 years of experience in sales, business development, customer success, or a related client-facing roleÂ
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent listening and questioning abilitiesÂ
- Comfortable initiating conversations with senior professionalsÂ
- Highly organized and self-motivatedÂ
- Experience using CRM platforms and sales engagement toolsÂ
- Ability to work independently in a remote environmentÂ
Nice-to-HavesÂ
- Experience selling B2B technology, software, data solutions, or professional servicesÂ
- Experience with account-based prospecting and discovery-based conversationsÂ
- Familiarity with LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Salesforce, or similar CRM and prospecting toolsÂ
- Interest in marine operations, transportation, environmental technology, weather intelligence, or industrial marketsÂ
- Experience selling into ports, transportation, government, infrastructure, or regulated industriesÂ
- Naturally curious and research-oriented, with strong persistence and resilienceÂ
Working Conditions:Â
This position is a full-time contract role (6 months), hybrid or remote, with preference for candidates located in Victoria, Vancouver Island, or Coastal BC.  We’d love to hear from candidates of all backgrounds, orientations, and abilities.Â
